A couple years back we rewrote the existing TER message board software to accommodate the volume of messages we were getting.  Unfortunately, because the design we used was based internally on our old store bought software, we are unable to make that change.

It is very easy to tell new posts to old threads because of the color.

What if I was browsing thru the older messages on a particular board, and see something I wish to add to. Nobody would know I replied or added to a message that was a few weeks old, except me.

When this occurs, most people just start a new thread with the same subject and include a link to the previous thread. Awkward at times but it works.

That may be the case, but I agree with Malketh.  Some may post a link to the previous thread, but not all the time.  And if they do, I'm sure they do it only out of necessity.  It would be SOOOO much better and more convenient if they were bumped to the top automatically.
