Lol what is it with Boston natives and California? I was born and raised in Northern California, and I guess I have a very proper and "valley girl-ish" accent, even though I don't see it!
Anyhow, during this visit and past stays, people keep calling me a fruitcake! I don't take it as disrespect, because when it's said it is used typically as an understanding of why I sound so daggon happy!
But this makes me wonder, are ladies not very personable here in Boston? I haven't met any providers, but I typically strike up conversations with strangers when I am out and about. It really seems like females/males alike are pretty jolly themselves! Just with a different accent.
So ... why the california fruitcake? Should I be offended?

Natives prefer Boston Cream Pie, although, technically, it is a cake.
I'll bet it has to do with your verbosity. If you're using more than four words to initiate the conversation, you'll make typical Bostonians very nervous. They'll suspect you're up to something.
