Safer in the city

Higher cost due to parking and certainly not convenient for me but the city hotels offer way more anonymity

I have a provider  friend coming in next week. We were talking and she wants to stay downtown. She like the culture and the restaurants. She everything is close. I told her I like going to the burbs because of the traffic and parking. It's just easier to get in and out. So my question is am I in the minority or do most men feel the same as me. Thanks for your response

When I do a dinner date I always go to one of the downtown restaurants.   Much more fun and the atmosphere and culture is way better in my opinion.   Just use valet parking in front of the restaurant and it is painless and easy.

I fall into the "suburbs" group.  Northern suburbs to be even more specific.  I'm sure the ladies know who among the guys prefers downtown vs various other geographies.

I think if you work outside Rt128 you like the suburbs but if you work inside Rt 128 you may like the city. In city parking is expensive but one can use the subway. For the provider I would think the city is more fun but more $$ . Have to measure the risk benefit .

Unless you intend on f...g 24/7, then I would probably go with her preference of downtown.

You give zero useful information in your post:

What does she like? If she is an outdoors type, the "burbs" as you call them may be acceptable.

Traffic and parking? Why? Are you driving in? Is he driving in? Both?

As someone who doesn't drive, I think that it's easy to get to the city from pretty much any point. But to get from Jamaica Plain, where I live, to anyplace that's not downtown, it's a major hassle. Plus, almost every nice hotel has valet parking or a garage within a block or two. If you're going to shell out a few hundo to see a provider you can afford the fifteen bucks in parking too. Or just man up and take the green line, although heaven knows that's an ordeal. (Not that the orange line is much better mind you.)

There are a lot of good hotels with free parking along the I-95/128 corridor.

But, if I'm staying longer for a dinner date or overnight, and especially in the nice weather, I like to stay someplace nice like around Copley Square or the North End where we can stroll and enjoy the city's sights and sounds.

For that I can stand the extra cost of parking and traffic hassle.

I can't stand the city mess and quite will often skip seeing a chick that is downtown.

I too had the same question about where to stay, as I will be visiting Boston next week (for the first time, yay). I'm a very cosmopolitan girl, so being somewhere close to good restaurants, bars, and cultural attractions is a big perk, which sounds like downtown. But since this is also a "business" trip and some people have said nay to downtown, I'm a little torn.

Have also heard Back Bay area is nice, but don't know much about it as a destination spot or its accessibility via public transport. If anyone can clarify, would be much appreciated!!

I hear ya girl! I am still trying to figure things out for this area, so I appreciated the post also.

I am on my third trip to the Boston area. The first time I stayed just outside the BackBay area and hated it. The next two trips I stayed in the Copley Square area and love it - everything is close by BUT the cost is incredibly high. Hotel rooms are very expensive in the area as it is "high season" but as someone earlier said all the hotels are busy which helps with anonymity.

So having said that I prefer the Back Bay area but am not opposed to exploring the burbs. I know some areas it is better to be downtown during the week and burbs on the weekends but I am not sure about this area or where in the burbs to go.

Good luck!

Really appreciate the tip and input. While I definitely want to stay somewhere nicer, definitely not looking to break the bank on this trip as I am spending enough on my Manhattan apartment! Going to do some hotel research very soon, but it's looking like Back Bay area if the price is right :).

Best of luck with your trip!

CK.....I think Back Bay would be an excellent choice for your stay in Boston.   Lots of excellent shopping, great variety of restaurants, and bars.  Nice hotels.  I think you would like it.    Great area to walk around, lots of people,  and there is public transportation available to other parts of Boston.

So much easier than trying to get downtown.

The hotels in the burbs more regularly monitor for this kind of thing and you will stick out a lot more.

I live out this way so obviously I am biased. There has only been 1 lady I have seen in Boston a few times before she disappeared. She was such a treat I put up with all the hassles of Boston, traffic IN/OUT, getting lost even with GPS, parking hassle added cost, a LOT of extra time because of distance and again traffic, face it the rooms cost a lot more so the ladies have to ask more. Being on a budget it makes it hard so when I look at ads and see someone is in Boston (the city) I don't investigate any further.

Using Tewk or Burl as examples, hotels just off the highway, lower cost for the ladies means lower cost for us guys, tons of free parking, close to my home so no hassle if I want to see someone after work because I can bypass rush hour traffic easily enough, feel safer not being in the "big city"

So I guess the answer will depend on where the person answering lives or works. Comes down to convenience.
