Since I've been in Boston I have been talking to some locals and they have informed me of a couple rules about being a true Bostonian lol. I'm not allowed to wear anything sport team related if its from another state and I better cheer for any Boston team no matter if there are good or not. Any other rules or suggestions I should know lol?

When you come  to a large intersection with no traffic lights, close you eyes and step on the gas.

Remember it's pronounced Bah'-stin.

Be sure to have some clam chow'-dah

If you attend a fair, buy some caugh'-tin candy.

Green lights mean go, yellow lights mean go faster.

Red lights mean stop, unless it would inconvenience you, but try not to hit anything.

There's more, but I'll let others take over for a while.

Ooh, and:

Milkshake = Frappe
TV Remote = Clicker (or click-ah)
Sprinkles =Jimmies
Trash can = Barrels
Average (looking) = Basic
Water Fountain = Bubbler (or bubblah)

Oh and you can turn right on red here and travel in the breakdown lane during rush hour.

Oh yes yes, correct you are.

I think I call them both jimmies, but I'm a bad Bostonian. ;)

So I can ask for a vanilla cone with jimmies on top? sounds kinky

Is a carriage, even if it does not contain a baby.

For collecting and moving items about while you are shopping,
Or for moving your baby about,
Or both at the same time.

ALWAYS leave it strewn about the parking lot to block spaces and inflict maximum damage to others' cars.

Or is it a car park?

Enunciation jokes intentionally omitted.  Too easy.

And some people are totally confused at roundabouts (jug handles they're called in New Jersey).  It's like JUST GO already!  Don't hem and haw, go through it and if you is you exit go around around again so you don't have to cut someone off.

Sorry!  Had issues like that in Quincy, Waltham, and South Boston yesterday.  I'm used to more aggressive Philly and NYC drivers who just know when to GO!

The clam chowder has been awesome, FYI.  I'll have another bowl before I leave this afternoon.

No, no, no.  A "jug handle" is a "Jersey left" is a loop to make a left hand turn by exiting to the right and following the loop / handle around.  You can also picture it as a ? question mark: take the exit ramp at the bottom (the period) and you can cross the main highway once you reach the top of the ? loop.  For example, there are a bunch on Route 9.

Now that I mentioned it, different sections of Route 9 have names depending on how local you are.  You rarely see the local / street names on maps.

And to add to list of places to get lost:

North of Boston is Pih' biddy (Peabody)
West of Boston is Woo' stuh (Worcester)
--- Squay-uh (Kenmore Squay-uh, Hah-vahd Squay-uh)

"The T" is the subway system.  (Technically, the mbTa is subways, buses, commuter rail, ferries, etc, but whenever someone says "Just take the T" I always think "subway".) Oh yeah, those big round signs with nothing but a Big Black T on them: MBTA stations and stops.

As time marches on for me, I guess there are more and more signs of being a true (historical) Bostonian: "See that thing over there?  That USED to be ____.  And that store over there?  That used to be ____.  See that parking lot over there?  That used to be ___. See the good looking young stud over there?  That used to be me." :-

I am guilty of driving around the roundabouts at least 3 times before i realize which way to go ...especially the one by Columbia Road lol I'm getting better though ..I've never been into clams but here seems like the best place to try it!

If you are driving a car, drive like you the only person on the road.
Don't use your Blinkha, it's just rude to
and don't forget to let other people know they are #1 with the special Boston Salute !!

I was in a cab I was watching someone cross on a green light and the driver said everyone in Boston does that and stop walks were for tourists

And I was told never to ask for pop its tonic

I hardly see them anymore because they have all been upgraded and replaced (Federal mandates) but some intersections without the latest upgrades just had Red-Yellow-Green traffic lights that sometimes displayed "Red-Green" together.

Now, imagine you're a driver approaching a Red-Green at 35 mph: wtf???

That was the old signal for "walk": red-stops-traffic (you hope!), green-for-pedestrians.

(When I first moved to Boston, I got a warning ticket for making a full stop at a red-green and then making what I thought was a legal right-on-red.  Since red-green is a "walk" signal and the law is "right-on-red-allowed" but "Stop-No Turns Allowed-on-Walk" I almost got nailed.  A warning ticket? I don't think they do that anymore, either.  It's a ticket and revenue for the govt, plain and simple!)

(Hi Bailey ... We've had e-mail but haven't met yet!

And for emphasis, it's 'wicked awesome.'  A great time is 'wicked pissah.'  Don't ask.
