A hobby phone is not so risky to the provider...  I kept the same hobby phone number for 4 years.  I recently changed because some spammer got a hold of it, not because of some bad provider experience.  I would say most experienced hobbiests use a hobby phone.
Believe me, having your client outed by his SO is all kinds of bad for your business...  wifee could stalk you or try to get LE involved just to get even.  Hobbiests who take precautions should reassure you that they protect both of you.

as a provider, a guy who uses a throw away phone scares me. With the understanding u need to be discreet the provider u choose should understand that & not call u back unsolicited. I will refuse any client that calls from a payphone or a throw away phone if I know that's what it is...the reason is for safety (as is what I tell prospective clients when they call or write). I understand u can't take a chance & get caught (I can't either for both of us, one it's money if I get you in trouble, two it's money if I get caught), & SO's can be very vindictive so we appreciate that you don't get caught.
I've heard some providers try to call clients & create drama. My personal feeling that should be the only reason for reviews of a provider, to state whether there was drama of any kind before, during, & even after.....Having the guys phone number or name gives me a little security but even so, it's not a sure thing....I've been robbed twice by the same hobbyist & robbed & beaten by another (actually before I got into the actual biz) the 2nd time there were no questions it was him & having his number & name encouraged him to admit & return the money (after a polite message left on his voicemail he cud drop it off or I could come pick it up at his house, lol), we've not seen each other again...
My point, I don't know.... I prefer u don't use a throw away phone, but you do need to protect yourself & the provider, your SO finding out isn't good for me.
Maybe that's some of the reasons the girls have big boyfriend types lurking around, the throw away phones take away our security.

I f I do not have a SO to worry about do I need to have a seperate hobby cell phone?  I reside in GA, if that makes a difference, and I am wondering if they will really try and get you through a few phone calls.  If I do need a seperate cell phone is the Trac Phone the best?  I have seen a few posts about cell phones but they didn't seem to address exactly what I am after.

You just don't know who in the real world might be picking up your phone sometime and seeing whom you've dialed, or a call from an escort could come at some inopportune time.

But if you don't have an SO, it's not nearly as big a deal.

I am now single and just use one phone, for example.

However, I rarely carry my phone with me, prefering to be reached at work or home on a land line.

Just old fashion, I guess.

Saw this post on one of the regional boards.  It's exactly why you should have a hobby phone. You never know what you may run into. The brand of phone you get isn't important. It seems that many hobbyist have a tracphone and it's the phone I use.
Like mrfisher, I am single, I own my own business and I really could care less. But, I do not want to leave a trail of any kind back to the real me.  If you read the link below, this is a perfect example why you should have a hobby phone.  The poor OP is really in  a bind. Guess what happens if someone googles his name.  As a newb, you'll probably make a mistake or two when you first start hobbying, if you piss off an escort, no matter how innocent the mistake was, she may just go off on you and put you on a national black list.

I have had Trac Phones and also Net10 phones in the past, but personally, I think t-mobile pre-paid phones are better.  Customer service at TracPhone and Net10 is almost non-existant, and I have found their coverage to be completely unreliable.  T-mobile has more reliable coverage, they actually have customer service that can actually speak english, and their phones and plans cost about the same as TracPhones anyway.

needing the protection of a bobby phone...  but it also requires a whole lot of "luck".  I submit "LUCK" is not a plan.  That's why we're here on TER learning the good, the bad & the ugly (apologies to Eastwood).
The beauty of a hobby phone is that it does not (if done correctly) link back to you.  Now if you leave a dead body in the hotel room, it will not do you any good.  Even without a name, LE can track it by cell towers to a small area...  and watch for the killer to come by.   But lacking a body, LE is not going to track a hobby phone for a petty misdemeanor...  which in most jurisdictions, requires a Police Officer to witness the infraction.  (There are only 2 people in the room behind closed & locked doors.  If you are not a cop, you only have to ensure that the other person is not either.)
However, if you are single...  say you are also civie dating...  your date or GF can not find anything on your phone.  When you are not playing, the phone is shut off & put away.  I also clear all numbers out of the memory after each meeting.  If you decide to stop the hobby for a time...  you just leave the phone off.

You should also use a hobby email address...   Try hard to not leave tracks.  You might never be able to remove them later.

Do not use credit cards somewhere you should not be.  Do not use EZ pass somewhere you should not be.

Let's say you meet the girl of your dreams & fall head over heels...   you don't want to have to forever watch your back.  It maybe a bit less stringent with no current SO...
