lets put it out like this.. my S.O is... n on meds. but lately he has been doing things to make me react crazy n saying hurtful things. then hrs or days later everything is fine... Any ideas  how to handle it?

Any would living or dealing with anyone with bi-polar disorder? trying to get my head wrapped around the mood swings n what not And the hurt feelings....

Have relatives who deal with it. My advice, good therapist, doctor, and even though the meds make you feel blech to you, it evens out your moods to everyone else. So please take the meds! and find new ways to get that euphoria! Skydive! Scuba! Hang glide... you get the idea.

Probably a supportive counselor for yourself. I have dealt with this from many SO's in my life. Social worker type that I am, I attract them. be happy to chat if you want to call.

Lived with it for over a decade myself(my ex) all I can say is get your S.O evaluated and then follow up with the treatment-no golden cure here even with a person participating in treatment there will be lots of hills.

Obviously it depends on your relationship to the person.  If it's your child, you have done level of obligation to learn, help, etc.  if it's almost anyone else, you can choose your level of involvement.

I myself deal with depression and anxiety.  Through medication and therapy, I've been able to keep both under control.  But it's up to ME to do it.  Just like any other mental disorder, including addition, it's comple up to the "patient" to deal with it.  Bipolar Disorder is a BITCH!!!  1) You can stay and be the enabler, punching bag, the one to blame for everything, the one that doesn't sleep, worries, etc.  OR you can choose to say, "I love you, and I've got your back.  But you're not allowed to treat me like this.  If you do, I'm out...  Period.  No questions.

Good luck

Follow the link - hope this helps.

There are a lot of meds our there to 'help' treat this condition - but is only 'part' of the treatment.

My wife was hospitalized for 8 days recently and they put her on 3 different drugs. She was unbalanced, fell and hit her head against the bed, had brain surgery and never recovered. Passed away last month. BP is a terrible disease. It's hard to live with someone when they're in their manic phase. Very hard. And, it's hard to live without her.

I know so many people who were told they had this and come to find out, it was not a chemical problem but a self problem. The best thing to do is help them get their mind OFF OF THEMSELVES and onto others who have it worse than they do. Jesus also does wonders... just saying. I was on Paxil for years and coming off that crap was like heroin... it was horrible. I have not been on medication for a long time because it was just an easy fix for me to continue my bad bahavior without having to make the necessary changes needed to balance me out. Now, I get choked out weekly and that seems to offer the same effect lol. In all seriousness, if it is a chemical issue, medication and therapy will help, but the person also has to make some changes. Many people do not realize that they can CHOOSE to be happy or be depressed. Just because you FEEL depressed does not mean you have to accept that as your fate... you  can do on purpose to choose another route.
