From a providers point of view......

~Everything suggested thus far is nice..... however, it must be verified in person, (*the utility bill, the letter, id, etc*)

Since I rarely set up appointment to meet with new clients until a comfort level has been established, this would be somewhat of putting the cart before the horse.

Let me just help those who are unaware of how some raids happen. Once the communication has been exchanged and the location is verified by the authorities, they break the door down.... sometimes literally ramming the door with a battering device and immediately restraining everyone present..... and they take everyone on the premises into custody. After some questioning, they either cite or arrest who they want and release the rest.

I only offer this as a hypothetical example of why a provider might not want to meet with you at her location pending verification of all of your documents. (*that and the fact that anyone can probably manufacture paper that state just about anything...... it's call photo shop, available on most lap tops*)

Here would be my suggestion...... be willing to offer anything that might help her establish a comfort level and give her the confidence that you are indeed who you claim to be.

Calling from numbers that are of public record.... referencing yourself through public web sites that might list your particular license or business (*yes, every state actually has online listings of every business registered in their area.... that is what is created when you pay for a business license*) a link to a web site that might have listed you when you received your previous degree.

Possibly an email from a personal account or an account set up at the educational facility you are studying at..... (as opposed to a free yahoo, hush mail or hotmail account)

There are numerous avenues to verify who you are and what you are involved with. Having someone call, or contacting an individual from your employers phone is just a short cut.

I'd advise you to just think of yourself in a strangers place and consider what might make you feel comfortable if you were just meeting them.

Hey Y'all

I'm another newbie on this wonderful hobbying discussion board.  I have been a VIP member for nearly 3 months and I've done my fair share of research and taken whatever precautions others have discussed before me.  I've realized that while everybody likes to feel special in their problems, I have yet to find a discussion in regards to my particular situation.

I am around the OC area and have found a few nice providers from the plethora that are available.  But since they are "nicer," they all seem to have more stringent requirements.  So here it is, I have just quit my job after hearing that I was admitted into a graduate program.  And since I have yet to see a provider (and currently have no job), it has been difficult to meet a provider.  I know that I have missed something somewhere, but I just needed to ask for help.  Thanks to anyone gracious enough to give some advice!

Just try to have and avail other forms of ID about yourself that can help to build a profile in your favor.
IE:
A phone/utility bill invoice(s) several months old.
The letter of admission into your graduate program.

Most of all; an open, friendly, and co-operative demeanor on the phone that the provider will pick up on and take into account in her screening.

"...it is frightening to hear of a hobbyist who is more concerned with where he parks his car than where he parks his dick."

I've got to file that away somewhere. Great line!

Well said, as usual Tori.  But as you've also stated, it's not impossible.  I was recently the president of a 1 person company, and simply stated that in the info sharing process.  It's not a perfect fix, and I'm known in my home town, but it's better than nothing.

By the way, what is the car in you pic?

I actually have another profession outside of the hobby..... (*yes, it is true, I only play an escort...:)

I actually associate w/ many young people returning from Iraq on a weekly basis. I had been encouraged on several occasions to purchase the car that these young guys originally bought when they were training and had received bonus money, etc for going into a special unit and specialized job fields.

I was finally convinced that a specific young man would greatly benefit from selling his car to me and me giving his family money in addition to paying it off.... basically a win win for everyone.

So, my summer car..... which I enjoy driving with the top off is an M3, 5 speed Convertible that was immaculate when I received it.

I still communicate with the young man that insisted I buy it from him and I still assure him I am enjoying it immensely. (*It also give me a warm feeling knowing that he was out from under the note associated with it*)  Plus, it is fast and fun ... the perfect summer car to drive.
It will be garaged at the end of the summer & waiting for me to bring it back south next year.......  Thank you for asking  kisses ~Tori

I was guessing BMW, but thought possibly Mercedes.  It was the clear plastic cover on the headlights, and a peek at the edge of the grill.  I've been eyeing the M5 personally, but it would require a reduction in hobbying.  For now I'll just visit it during my WAY too frequent trips to get the other cars serviced.  They are fun to drive, but they're becoming just a little too needy.
