The Copley Square area has the best hotels and is most convenient...

but the prices tend to be high, though right now you might get a bargain (Don't pick the Boston Marathon week however, late April.)  Copley is best of sight-seeing and shopping too.

After that the Theater District is a bit cheaper, and then there is the Downtown which has some nice hotels, but is inconvenient to get to.  It can be a bit unsafe at night.

Kendal Square in Cambridge is convenient, but not very interesting if you want to walk around.

The airport has the best bargains usually, but unless you like to watch planes land and take off, there's not much there.  It is convenient for people to get to, however.

The Seaport District is not a bad area to get to now, but depending on whether there is a big convention or two going on at the Convention Center there, the hotel prices could be high.  There are some nice restaurants around there too.

Starting late April the hotel prices will shoot up and remain fairly until November.  Boston has a bit of a hotel room shortage right now

I grew up in Boston but it's been quite a while since I've gone back, so I'm sure the town has changed tremendously! (Also, I was not a frequenter of hotels in my childhood LOL).

Please help: Where are the best places/locations to stay while there? Beacon Hill? Back Bay? Commons?

Please be sure to *PM* with any specific hotel recommendations :)

Thanks all!

Here is a link to the upcoming BIG Conventions in Boston, their venues and their approximate number of attendees, maybe HORNY attendees with some money to spend.

Of course, that can work out for you, too.  Maybe you can get a free eye exam during the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery conference at the end of April.  13,000 attendees!  Need a lawyer?  American Bar Assn in August: 8,000 attendees.

I had an appointment right in the middle of the Anime Expo (or was it the Comic Expo or Sci Fi Expo?) a couple of years ago.  Usually, we worry about dressing casually or business-like so as not to stand out.  Yikes! Anyone dressed normally looked like a freak walking around the Copley hotels and Hynes with all these people slickly dressed like monsters, super heroes and other sci-fi characters.  (I have to admit that I was really impressed by many of those costumes.
