The Economics of Being an Independent Porn Star

The article is a year old but interesting read if you haven't....

"Performers including Stoya and Jesse Jane are turning away from contracts and agents to run their own show."

Until fairly recently, the business model for adult entertainment performers was simple: Agents handled their business arrangements, and that was that.

But as the industry consolidates and develops new outlets, a different kind of star is appearing—one in charge of her own destiny. Though independent players are still somewhat rare (agents continue to represent most performers), a few big names are starting to branch out on their own.

Digital Playground was basically imploding at the time - so yeah, I'd imagine Stoya and Jesse Jane would consider going on their own.  They basically have none of the contract stars they had 3-4 years ago - not to mention a new Pirates, etc..

(Pun notwithstanding) is a good thing.  If the industry is going to survive piracy and other threats then some participants are going to have to come up with some new thinking.  Hope this works out and that it promotes more beneficial innovations.
