... I cut my porn teeth, so to speak, back in the mid-80s. Perhaps it was because I was around the age of the performers, but, I still like to look at some of the clips from that era. Yes, there was pubic hair, but, there were natural boobs and you didn't have to be a contortionist every time a penis entered a vagina. The sex seemed more natural because the positions were more natural. I could have done without the cheesy background music. At times, there was some actual dialogue.

And the reason that "body doubles" are used in mainstream movies is the reason most porn stars get nose jobs, tummy tucks and liposuction--porn is a visual medium, and nicely formed faces and breasts and waists and legs are simply more pleasing to watch.
Regarding performances: Reality TV thrives on extremes and exaggerations, and that is spilling over into porn. More and more of the "girl next door" types are getting pulled into more extreme and more daring performances.
