Vegas, except for the last two years, pretty much shuts down on Thanksgiving. There isn't much tourist traffic and up until a few years ago only a handful of restaurants were open. For example, the Bellagio buffet would open around 3 pm and there would be a 2 hour line to wait. Now I am talking about restaurants. Only a few local ones were open and most of those were packed.

As far as ice skating downtown summerlin has a nice venue and view of red rocks.

Bellagio has a nice exhibit, I think they change the theme right around thanksgiving.

Venetian used to have the "winter festival " but they closed it last year, maybe they will bring it back

The strip is not crowded. The weather is terrific in the 70s for most part unless a freak winter storm comes thru (like last year).

There is the chocolate factory open, that is cool.  There are holiday light exhibits around town.

But the strip is pretty much quiet. All the pools are closed (yet the hotels still charge a resort fee). Funny story, checking in at the sahara during winter time they tacked on $6 "resort fee". I said what is that for? They said for the pool and wifi? I pointed right at the pool, which was right next to the lobby. Big sign POOL CLOSED. Then I said I have my own WIFI !! Pass !

Funny thing my dad once asked does Vegas celebrate Christmas..lol I said yeah Dad and it's better we get the lights the parties and No SNOW! Sorry years of cold mornings and shoveling make me love this place every winter! 😆

was anything special that happens in Vegas during Thanksgiving?

Thinking about making a short trip. Never been there during the holiday season, so is there any special events going on at the different hotels or any good concerts or shows?

Las Vegas is magical during the holidays!
Thanksgiving is outstanding pretty much anywhere you go. Some of the best restaurants in the world honor our fair city every day.  So, competition is always fierce, but when it comes to Thanksgiving, Christmas and OMG New Year's Eve...lookout!  It is like a showdown.
The decorations are world class.  There is ice skating, horse drawn buggies and seasonal  shows. Ok, so the skating is marginal, but novel here, kinda' cute. The shopping is fantastic and don't forget the selection and quality of companions in Las Vegas is tough to beat, too.
I highly recommend a stroll through the Bellagio to see their amazing holiday displays, maybe with a TER tramp in tow...

So is Las Vegas special during the holidays?  You betcha!  You really should see it for  yourself.

Have never been in Vegas for Thanksgiving or New Years Eve/New Years. BUT I can tell you about the Christmas time in Vegas. I stay in Vegas quite a few times during Christmas. My first trip in Vegas during Christmas I thought there wouldn't be many people and I could just chill. WRONG! Everyone else had the same idea. It was crowded and busy. Last Christmas there was a gaming convention in town so it was more crowded than normal and the room rates were higher. This year the room rates seem lower than last year. There are a few holiday shows to see and lots of Christmas decorations to view. I usually look at the decorations at the Palazzo. They have the water falls decorated and ice looking sculptures of birds. I'm sure the ladies can suggest other sights in Vegas with a Christmas theme.
