i don't know about you but i am find the hotel "resort fee's" to be out of hand.
I recently booked a room and on Hotels . com it was listed at 30 a night ( great deal ) however the resort fee was 35 a night...seriously... the hard rock advertised a room on the same site for 35 a night but the resort fee was 40... perhaps they advertise a lower rate and bump the resort fee to make up for it, but i found this crazy.
i found this article today also, yes it is from Jan of this year, but a little helpful. However I found last week when seeking a room the resort fees where higher than what is listed in the linked article.

but another way to get as much money from us for things the majority of us never use; especially when they do not tell us everything the fees covers. It is similar to airline charging for checked bags, which is reaping hundreds of millions in profits for the airlines.
As a business owner, I believe in free enterprise and making a profit, but seriously it is getting out of hand. I guess I need to stay at hotels without "resort fees", so I can spend more on the lovely Vegas ladies.
What do you get for this fee. The right to walk in, register and pay for a room.

Yes, the resort fees are annoying, but the alternative is worse...raising room rates AND charging for gym, internet, daily paper, etc

other cities like LA or NY charge you $30-50 for parking which is the equivalent of a resort fee..it is pretty much the same thing everywhere

where the resort fee was higher then the room rate. That is bogus! I think the resort fees are rip off. You get taxed on top of what you get taxed for the room rates. Most of what they include in the resort fee I don't use. I'm like just say the room is this amount period vs. It's this amount and tack on the resort fee. Some of the place downtown don't have resort fees added on.
The resort fees in Vegas and elsewhere are ridiculous but all too typical.
This is how politicians on both sides of the aisle pay for their pet projects. Rather than raise taxes on residents they choose to pass those costs on those visiting. This is done at the local level of government and when residents hear about this even those that pay attention the result is usually a yawn and the flippant thought "oh well, it won't affect me."
The problem is they are half correct. The local fees won't affect them however if they do any traveling they are recipients of the egregious raping and pillaging of their wallets in the town they visit. Keep that in mind should you ever have the opportunity to vote on a proposal for hotel, rental car, resort fee increase your town. You may indeed get a new stadium, roads, etc on someone else's dime, but you will end up chipping in on another town's upgrades when you pack up and head out for vacation.
at the Palazzo if you book directly, other hotels let you do the same but you have to book directly.
Yes. I've had good luck at Venetian and Palazzo with rejecting the resort fee. Tell them at the beginning that you don't need wifi or use of pool or gym
Learning something everyday. I've literally spent thousands on resort fees over the years. Will try it next month. I could've had a couple more dates with some lovely ladies instead.
While that sounds good, one rarely gets a deal when booking direct. Paying full price will usually be much greater than the package deals obtained through third parties, including the resort fee.
I just went to Atlantic city last weekend for the hell of it because I received a comped room at Caesars because of my play from vegas and I felt like going to the beach. The only thing I charged to the room was my dinner that night. everything else were taxes and fees.
room fees $11.20
resort fee $22.80 -- doesn't even allow use of the pool, Xtra $10 for that
atlantic city tourism fee $2.00
new jersey room $3.00
not to mention I knew valet parking isn't free like vegas so I self parked which I figured would have been cheaper. $25 every time you leave the garage with no in and out privileges, unless your play within the last 24 hrs allows for a free one time voucher. No wonder Atlantic city is closing up and going down the tubes.
I'm a member of a Las Vegas travel/discussion forum and we've had some heated discussions on resort fees in the past. The only way that I've been able to avoid resort fees are when my rooms are comped.

I got a great deal at MGM on Expedia but after you add the resort fee it wasn't so great, an extra $30 a night. I don't need the wifi and don't watch tv. I used the gym once. I'm not sure what I even paid for
