Good question that it is.
One that should be asked to a doctor.

There should be a FAQ on this board somewhere about STD's and all the ways they can be transmitted.  This question comes up fairly regularly.

Here's the straight dope.  Most STD's are not transmittable by oral contact.  There are some notable exceptions.  First of all, HIV can be transmitted that way.  It's highly unlikely that it would happen, but any exchange of body fluid can theoretically exchange the virus.  Second, and this is a bigger worry, herpes can be transmitted that way.  This is a concern if you are DATY as well, since you can get oral herpes from it.  Once again, if you go with the ladies who are regularly reviewed and take good care of themselves, your chances are slim, but they do exist.

There is alot of information on this subject, but none that says it's not possible to contract an STD. In most cases, they are questioning the spread of HIV through oral sex which for now appears to be expremely low risk.

However, it is indisputable that oral sex can transmit syphilis, gonorrhea, herpes, warts, and other diseases. For more information on it - http://www.managingdesire.org/sfdphoralsex.html

or - http://www.medinstitute.org/medical/STD%20overview/OS&STD.htm

You can get stds but not HIV from RECEIVING oral sex.  Saliva, sweat and urine can not transmit that virus . . . only blood, breast milk, semen and vaginal fluids can transmit HIV.  So you won't die from a bbbj unless you bring home the clap to your wife and she kills you.
