The CITY: Chicago has so many hotels, extended stays, etc... You mentioned Hampton Inn, downtown has one that is ridiculously nice in the loop.. (I actually did an outcall there). Residence Inn/Marriott courtyard/Embassy is also very very nice... Have many Restraunt's & entertainment around them... The list is sooo long, I can go on & on... (So research)
The SUBBURBS-idk what to tell you cuz I haven't venture that way Rosemont/Ohare area-would suggest River Road they have a long stretch of hotels ranging from 2-4 stars... I've stayed the Westin, Embassy & marriott courtyard, all were very nice & discrete. When I book a hotel touring/traveling I use Priceline to get 4 star plus hotels for reasonable pricing.. Priceline/hotels.com & Booking.com are great tools to use to find hotels Good Luck!!!Xoxo
