"...Our reservation was found and we were quickly seated.   The waitress came to our table and after finishing her spiel about the evenings availabilities she asked what I wished to drink.  My eyes quickly shifted from her pleasant face to his burning gaze  and I tilted my head slightly and smiled in subtle deferment when he quietly said “she’ll have a Bellini, I’ll have a vodka tonic.”   The waitress glanced between us and I nodded, smiling and sitting with perfect posture again elevated by the confidence his control gave me. Satisfied,  she left and returned only to bring our drinks and the meal orders where the scene was repeated once again.  
 I gazed up at the sky, the bright blue stucco sky peppered with sponge painted white clouds and illuminated by beautiful lights.  I looked around the dining room floor full of stylish patrons, the female half of an elegant couple next to us smiling cordially when my eyes caught hers.  And he watched me as I took in the graceful scene, perhaps knowing how much I appreciated that he would share his favorite place with me.  We held hands above the table between bites of foccacia & olive oil, an assortment of topics bandied between us but the dark sky of his face and stern tone told me that there was something else he desired to discuss.  
 I spoke idly of the meal, invoking as much Anthony Bourdain as I could muster to describe the delicate mushroom tortellini I was pushing around my plate until he stunned me into silence.  
 “How many men did you fuck today...?”
