ok so I got a few emails in my inbox saying delivery failure when i never tried to send emails then I got 2 emails from people in my contact list asking me if i sent them links to viagra which I tottally didnt send(nothing against viagra i think its one of the best inventions ever) so I am thinking that the site you porn that i was on a few nights ago may have caused this but not sure.I am going to run a system restore on my pc and hopefully this helps.I have mcfee virus protection and tried doing a sweep but not sure if this helped or not.did anyone else get a spam email from me?? Has this happened to anyone elses before and does anyone have any advice on how i can fix this??So not cool!!worst comes to worst I was thinking of switching to gmail but dont want to lose all the contacts I have now!!I am definetley not a pc whiz and any advice is much appricated ! xoxo Lilly

...a scan on my computer.  I thought your computer got hacked and it was using your email list to implant a virus in my computer so I pulled the plug out of the wall before it finished.  I hope it worked and I stopped it in time.

Post your question on the General board. There are a lot of tech wizards there.  Maybe you should take your computer to the Geek Squad.

oh crap so if its emailing my cali friends I feel tottally screwed.my laptop is like 9 months old so I might just do the black friday thing and get a new computer  because I am not sure if best buy geek squad can handle everything I have on here lol!!tottally bummed or mabey switching to gmail-either way this blows!!!

Hi Lilly, sorry that happened to you!

I'm not a big fan of McAfee; Microsoft Security Essentials is a better solution (http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials) as well as being free.  Install that, make sure it updates to the latest definitions, and do a full scan on your hard drive.  After that, run MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free).  You'll just need the free version for what we need.  Run a full scan with that and remove anything that it finds.  Occasionally that won't fix the problem if it's a virus known as TDSS--I use a special program to remove that and if that's the case we'll deal with it later.

Just a note, if you switch to Gmail, it probably won't solve your problem and your computer may continue to send out spam--the emails don't have anything to do with the account you're using and won't stop until the virus causing them is removed.  (Though Gmail is pretty good and I highly recommend it, and I can tell you how to import your contacts to it if you want.)

I work with computers for a living; feel free to PM me and I'll send you my email if you need more help.  I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you yet but hope to remedy that sometime soon!

You can download it for free at downloads.com.
Once you download it you can upgrade to a paid version.  So far the free version is working for me.
I thought my laptop was on it's last legs but I"m trying to squeeze every drop of life out of it I can.

I got a cooling pad and I run the Advanced System Care every so often.  It removes junk files you aren't using, scans for malware and viruses, removes them if it can, and then compacts everything into a neat size on your hard drive.  (that's the defrag part)  Now my laptop is running a lot better and not giving me too much trouble anymore and it's a couple of years old.  I also use Avast antivirus software that I believe was also a free download.

Hope this helps.

I agree with the above advice.  I ran antivirus and Malwarebytes.  Change your password ASAP!!

Same thing happen to me several years ago, Some how they got your password and that's how they are able to heck your contacts.

Also on hotmail you can block them from sendingg you emails.

I haven't had any problems since but it did piss a lot of my friends off.
