Thanks for the continued push for a SD M&G!  In my humble opinion, the referral idea sounds pretty good - from previous discussions, one of the problems in the past was getting enough guys to show up.  With a more selective attendee list, the % of no-shows would probably be lower.  I'm also not a fan of the formal atmosphere - an informal pool party seems more appropriate for a SoCal setting.  I'd offer my place, but nosy neighbors and passing golfers would be a big problem - you really need a secluded estate or isolated house.  The girls will always look devastating whatever they wear!

Thanks to those people who took time to reply to my earlier post.  I am still pondering how to go about doing a M&G.  The LA events typically go for about 40 for the guys and zero for the girls.  The next big question is where to go for a hospitable venue.  Any thoughts?  In general?

Some ideas are starting to gel in my mind.  I was talking to another guy who had fond memories of certain famous San Diego Christmas Parties.  They were in fact formal.  Guys who had them wore tuxes.  The girls were really devastating.  I don't know if this guy crowd would dress up.  I bet the girls would love to dress up.  When I have gone to other boards' christmas mixers I always wore a christmas tie and a blazer.

I am wondering how to keep this on the smallish scale as a first experiment.  One thought was that it might be on a "girl referral only" basis.  Guys would only get an invitation if a girl nominated him.  That would keep it selective.  The ultimate white list.  I don't want to be in the position of having to screen guys.  I could probably think of whom the girls might be with out even trying.  As Bond says this is hard work involving some up front expense.  I'm still looking for ideas.
