Lots of good, inexpensive choices downtown. The Golden Nugget is the jewel of downtown, hands down. The Plaza and The D have both been refurbished and provide a good place to stay. If you stay at the El Cortez choose the king jacuzzi suite...its a great room at a great rate and is closest to the Container Park. I haven't stayed at The Grand but have heard it is nice.

Been wondering about the El Cortez and some others which have been (allegedly) upgraded.  Any really good hotels? Or really nasty ones to avoid downtown?  I'd prefer to be near the Container Park and the Burlesque Museum.......

The Downtown Grand was remodeled they have more a modern feel to the rooms with some bright color walls if I remember correctly.El Cortez had some rooms that were remodeled that was across the street from the main hotel. It was okay nothing to write home about.
I would recommend Golden Nugget I really like that hotel all of the towers the rooms are nice.

the Golden Nugget is the best hotel downtown. I like the Rush tower because the rooms are nice and clean, it is away from the casino/crowds and close to the parking structure with no security. Easy to get in and out for the ladies. If you stay in the upper (22nd +) suites, then you need a card to access those rooms, but since there is no security, it is easy to meet your date on the first floor.

I was just at the Downtown Grand a few days ago & their rooms are pretty nice, especially the suites. The only thing I didn't enjoy about it was being checked for a key every time I went to the elevators (but that's with any upscale hotel). If you're looking for a reasonable amount to spend then that's where I go.

If you are looking for the best, one of my favorites would have to be the Bellagio. Absolutely amazing from top to bottom rooms are extremely comfy and I love their hot tubs. I was there last night! :)
