Can someone offer an opinion on South Point? I have been reading reviews that describe it as reeking of smoke and unclean rooms.

I am thinking of staying there, but a little based upon reviews

I've stayed at SouthPoint, and the casino is very smoky.  Rooms were adequate, neither luxurious nor particularly upscale.
HOWEVER, if you'll travel to SouthPoint, there's a place just four miles South, and right off the I-15, named "M Resort," that has upscale, beautiful rooms, a great casino that has clean air, four EXCELLENT restaurants, a NON-SMOKING, large Race & Sports Book, and very friendly folks working there throughout the resort and  casino
On my scale of 1-10 where Cosmo and Wynn/Encore are 9 1/2* Resorts, I'll give M Resort a solid 9*, at half the price!
SouthPoint is adequate, about a 7*
ENJOY!
And, btw, no security at M Resort elevators, very easy access if you have company coming to visit!

Well said JEFFREY  :-) !
South Point is okay, but it is real smokey in the casino  - the rooms are fine, clean and basic.
Guard always at the Elevator .

the 'M" is Nice, clean, and newer -  I was there recently and as I walked through the casino , I noticed the air was not smelly or smokey!
More people should stay at the M!

the Vdara. No casino = No smoke and you can meet your "friend" in the lobby as there is security but easy to flash your room card to go up. Kitchenette (refer, micro, induction cooktop).

The Mandarin Oriental is also very nice, no security, but much more expensive. No refer.

Like OC said Vdara is non-smoking alot more modern than the Southpoint and very nice.
I was just at the Southpoint recently and the casino floor is smoky however the rooms are clean no frills but if price is not an issue I would go with Vdara.
Just my.02

Vdara requires showing your room key to security before they will allow you upstairs after 6 pm.  I've never had a problem bringing providers upstairs upon doing so, even after midnight.  Just make sure you are discreet.

One thing to watch our for at Vdara or Aria...if you go outside after 9 pm, you may get hit upon by providers working outside.  They aren't overly pushy, but still...

Satisfactory, but that was five years ago.  Personally, I prefer staying closer to the strip, and Vdara or Signature are where I look first.   You will have to go downstairs to meet anyone who might visit (at least at night) at Vdara, as security will request you show your room key to access the elevators.   Signature is gated, but there is access through MGM Grand unless it's after 11 pm.  These hotels are non-casino, and non-smoking.  All rooms are suites, with kitchenette, and are high end.  Both are close to McCarren, so the taxi ride is short.

Greatly appreciated.  I have been curious about South Point for a while, but I can scratch it off my list.

wynn does it .

I was at the SLS with mirrored ceilings.  that is the way to go

I would skip that place and I live here with so many better options, most hotels do have security at the elevators you just flash your key, or a few require an actual key to unlock the elevator to reach your floor (the hard Rock Hotel Towers require the actually key inserted in the elevator to activate it) also the high volume of people going in and out is not a biggie for anyone here.
Monte Carlo, Rio,  Luxor, no security to enter the elevators or key required.  (keep in mind the Luxor is in need of a major rehab, also it will smell like mold and that's not a pleasant stay to me at least)

Thanks for the suggestion hun.  BTW, I am warm for your form.
