Wise sayings of Pappy Maverick

Maverick was one of my favorite TV shows of the late 1950's.  James Garner died one month ago today and I am reading his autobiography, "The Garner Files" (2011).

He notes that one of the ways humor was introduced was by saying "As my old Pappy used to say....."

Two of those sayings are relevant to many of the topics discussed here:

"Marriage is the only game of chance where both people can lose."

"Any man who needs to make out a will just isn't spending his money properly."

My dear ol' pappy died long before Maverick was on TV but I occasionally use the term about something he said. What comes to mind frequently and perhaps appropriate for this board. I was about 12 and I was cutting kindling for a wood stove and he came out and asked me, "Son, do you know where babies come from?"  I kind of mumbled, "yes I guess so." Then my dear old pappy said,  "Well, just be careful where you put that thing."  Words to live by LOL

"You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time.  And them's pretty good odds."
