references to some of my favorite movies... only to have NOONE get the reference...
A lover of beauty - and a beauty of a lover... I am Jacimo, jester of kings and king of jesters... from "the Court Jester" Danny Kaye, Glennis Johns, Mildred Natwick, Basil Rathbone, Angela Landbury - and many others.  Quite the comedy - still a timeless treasure...

Badges, we don't need no stinking badges... from the Treasure of the Ciara Madris... perhaps the definative movie on greed - and what it does to the soul - Bogart & John Huston - at their best.

"I was born a poor ___ child"  from Steve Martin's masterpiece - "The Jerk"  I still laugh at that movie - especially when his dad takes him "out back" to discuss the facts of life... and shows him a can of shoe polish (Shinola) and asks what that is... and then shoes him a cowpie - and asks him what that is...  essentially - does he know shit from shinola!  what a hoot!!!

perhaps the most recent reference..."one time at band camp... " from American Pie....  and we should all know what that is in reference too...

Anyone else with references from movies that they were usin?  would love to know...

by the way - everyone should see ICE HARVEST - love the scenes with John Cusack and his ex-wife's current husband are truly clasic....   laughed so hard... and I cannot see why the critics did not like this movie.....   just don't get dem critick...s  them knot edjukatid folks lik us.

bear in mind - I live in Philly so think that --- my fave Slim Pickens joke....  when asked how do you get to Texas - he replied - "Go east until you smell it, and then go south until you step in it..."!

Aside from your American Pie reference all your quotes are from movies from 30+ years ago.

This officially makes you old....Sorry.

The Court Jester was simply a great film from the '50's.

Had a terrific comic sequence over an attempt to poison Danny Kaye with the rhyme: "The pellet with the poison's in the flagon with the dragon! The vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true!"

There also was a fantastic fencing scene between Danny Kaye and Basil Rathbone, which demonstrated both of their athletic skills.

And to Shafty, we study the best of 'old' things to enjoy and learn from them. If we didn't, you'd still be beating out your messages on drums.

the "Badges, we don't need no stinking badges..." reference always brings up an entirly different movie.....

Blazing Saddles - and that just shows another depth to Mel Brooks' humor, the ability to drop in quotes from classic movies.....

You got the correct quote reference.  That line was never in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre and is one of the most misquoted lines.  The actual line was "Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges."  Mel Brooks put the misquote in Blazing Saddles because it was such a popular error.  Just like Cagney never said "You dirty rat" and Bogart never said "Play it again, Sam."

"Go ahead . . . make my day!"  And, from the movie, "Waiting For Guffman" . . . "I'm just --  well, I'm so mad, I'm just, I'm just going to go home and bite my pillow."  That's a flippin' hysterical movie if you've ever done any theater.

Hugs,
Ciara

I was also surprised  by  the critics  responses to it.   I wanted  to see  Capote  but  allowed my friend  to choose .  Now I am  glad  because I would  not  have  had  one of my better experiences at the Arc Light Theater  in L.A.  The only way to see a movie the way movies were meant to be seen  IMHO
