I'm 79 and still hobby about twice a month.  You will not lose the urge if you have been a long time hobbyist.

The over 60 Board has been moved to a morevisible position.. sowe should try to use itmore..

I have a question?  How does one afford our favorite activity when retired or approaching retirement?

Right now, I am working hard on saying "No".. as I have been saving for retirement .. but also as I am in sales.. I have been pulling back on my new business efforts and work to retain my regular customers (Gee, girls, does that sund familiar?) .. I get chunks of cash from new business.. and that has slowed down as a result of my shutting down my new business efforts..

All of a sudden.. what seemed like nothing to me (cash wise) is now a big deal.. so I am curious about those that have gone before me.. how does one afford to continue with my relationships and retire as well..?  I have thought I could dial up my new business efforts.. but that is only a short term answer.. so what have others done.. live on their memories.. or work (part time?) for new ones..?

I get a pension and Social Security.  My entire monthly pension goes in my checking account as does my SSI benefits.  However, I transfer part of my SS check into my two savings accounts, one for play and one for paying my income tax.  I have a sufficient amount which allows me to play as I desire.

Swim

Instead of giving up the foods that you love, you just eat less of them.

And so it is in my life now.

I just have to be philosophical about it.  I've had an excellent run, but have to get real about finances.

One plus is that when I do get out and hobby, it's really marvelous instead of just being great.

Absence does make the heart grow fonder, and all that jazz.

I will start drawing full SS in July but I am not retiring - I'll bank the SS and use part of it to continue meeting lovely women - I anticipate working 4 more years - by then I'll be 70 and won't know what sex is so it will become a moot point.

and be certain of an amazing time. I'm 63 now and ... have my ATF ...
unlike the times of yore, when I saw two women in the same hotel with 30 minutes in between
happy birthday to me ... lol

I retired at 62 (am now 64), from a lifetime of multiple good paying blue collar careers.  I hobby several times a month (same as when I was working) with mad money (which from my point of view is anything left over after all the bills are covered), and I'm no where near spending everything I have coming in.  I'm doing this on pretty much fixed income because of proper retirement planning.  I do not work in retirement, don't want to, don't have to....though my gross income in retirement (50% from SS, 50% from pensions/other retirement tools) is about 60% of my working gross.  How is this possible?  When I was working my tax burden was high and my residence was in a state with a ridiculously high cost of living, because that's where the jobs were.  I re-located in retirement to a tax friendly state with a lower cost of living.  My fed and state combined tax burden in retirement is about 3% of gross, leaving me with nearly the same net spendable income as when working.  Add it up:  no more contributions to Social Security, or Medicare.  Lower your gross, you enter a lower tax bracket.  In a lower tax bracket, less of your Social Security benefit is taxed by the IRS.  Move to a state where Social Security is not taxable income.  All those expenses of commuting and clothing etc for the job are gone (a tank of gas lasts me 4-6 weeks now and the car should last 20 years).  You have more time on your hands so you make more meals at home instead of take out...more bucks saved.  And the smartest thing I did was buy TER VIP which has helped me spend my hobby bucks wisely.  It can be done.

Fortunately I have found a provider very close bye that will provide in call for only 200. Found her about six months ago and hope she is in it for the long run. She's younger than us in great spinner shape likes everything.

I found her when she was just starting to get reviews and could not believe my luck. I actually told her she could be charging more and she was aware and does charge others more. She figured I was on a fixed budget so she was cool with our rate and no limits yet

it all depends on how much you want to play without depleting your retirement nest egg..it also depends how long you are able to get and stay hard..the lucky ones will have enough funds and sexual stamina to last into their 90's..the unlucky ones will run out of money or have their jewels go south on a permanent basis..we all are somewhere in between..Father Time and Fate will decide our destinies..

...automatically scrolling down to the bottom of the menu and tapping the Erotic Lit board. :-(

Wonder how long it'll take me to stop ding that?

...work a fun part time job. Very part time. My retirement pay covers bills, etc. my part time job pays for the  fun times.

just my suggestions, what I do if I want something ,
if the budget is tight,  save up - Maybe give up something else, like SodaPop, or dinners out, movies, etc. it all ads up! and yes, i agree, The senior discount is an excellent idea  ;-)
also,
Getting a part time job is a great idea, not just for the extra cash, BUT ALSO to keep the Mind busy!
Stay healthy active in your retirement ! These are the years you are to spoil and enjoy yourself more! ;-);-

At the moment.. paying off my Country Club dues.. thiisalone would have paidfora doublle overninght and then some.. so I guess we make choices..when I retire, I'll get a job at the bag drop and play for free.. Right now, I try not to spend my wife's SS payments on my favorite activity..

quit the country club and played at the local muni, golf was great becuz it gave me a reason to be gone from the house.
