people can only waste your time if you let them

I just posted my first ad today and I've been getting a lot of time wasters. How long did it take to book your first client when you first started?

I have no idea about the answer to your question. But here's a chance to get your name out there! Tell us where you are, and since you'll be responding instead of starting a thread, you can include a link to your site or ad.

Also, jump into some conversations on your local board.

Read the manual pinned to the top of this board.

Good luck!!

Where did you post your ad? The number of time wasters can sometimes be correlated to that choice.  When you advertise on BackPage, you get BP callers. When you advertise on EROS, that's a different group (except for the overlap). When you advertise on a TER Local Ad Board, you get us! :-)

You want to maximize your advertising ROI (return on investment) and that isn't just the number of calls. It's the number of calls that convert into actual meetings. Ka-ching!

If you're just starting out, I'll suggest that you keep notes of calls, time-waster calls, appointments made, actual meetings (appointments - cancellations) and which ad generated the call. ("Thank you for contacting me. BTW, where did you see my ad?" or other sneaky Market Survey. "Did you like the blue lingerie pic? You didn't see it? Oh! You must have seen my other ad with the swimming pool pics.")

And just to prepare you ... not every client is a TER Reviewer. It could take a few sessions before you meet someone who will submit a review.

GOOD LUCK! HAVE FUN!

I'll also keep this in mind! Thank you!

What happened to DanaDoll? That's OK.  Suggestions are for all.

The $100 ad that generates 20 annoying calls and 5 closed deals for a net of +$1000
might be better than
the $500 ad that generates 8 polite phone callers and 1 closed deal for a net -$100

You have to factor in how much you debit the annoying calls and how much you enjoy the polite calls.

I'm sure that ad effectiveness will vary by city and market and also by your own phone / email skills. Some "time wasters" are just scared newbies that you have to make feel comfortable rather than berate. "You sound kind of nervous. Why don't you reread the ads and call again when you're feeling more comfortable." takes 5 seconds and might get a call back. "What are you, an idiot? Did you read the ad? Stop calling me, you time wasting moron." might not do as well.

You've done better than me.... I've gotten zero emails. LOL!

and don't take this the wrong way but sounds like you're brand new, unreviewed and independent so I'm wondering if you're perhaps confusing some of the calls as time wasters when they are merely being very cautious due to your lack of credentials. Not sure what you're definition of a time waster is -- might be someone that really is never going to make the appointment or might be someone asking you for some way of validating you are for real before making any commitments or might just be newbies hoping you might be more friendly to them as you're new too and it's something of the blind leading the blind and not getting anywhere ;-)

Like others said, maybe share some info here to introduce yourself -- and do so on your local board as well. Contribute to some of the discussions if you have something good to contribute -- but don't just comment to make a post as that might come across in a bad light.

In any case, try not to get caught up in any negative feelings -- if they are really wasting your time you can work on both how to ignore skills and general "professional" communication skills with them.
You'll need to build up some trust with the potential clients in your market and that will probably take a bit of time so expect slow starts but once things get going if you've kept a cool head early on and are delivering a good, consistent service you'll be fine.

When you first start out, likely the guys will ask questions they typically wouldn't once you are established. They are feeling you out. They are TOFTT (Taking one for the team) in seeing you without reviews. They do not know if they'll get a 10 experience or a 1.

Sure, some probably are time wasters but keep in mind that likely they are being cautious. Some of them might even call you later on, down the road. Some might just decide to wait til you have reviews.

Hang in there and don't be afraid to ask Qs on this board. There are plenty of people that want to help. It takes patience in the beginning.

I was placed on the board by a wonderful gent who wanted to help me...it was a serendipidous journey.  Do you have some old clients who could give you reviews?  You need 3-4 usually for the safety factor so then it is a go after that.

It is also the area you are in that can make a difference as well.  DC area is really a TER kind of place so you can do quite well with this site.  Don't give up as it is a great site!

I try to help new ladies if I can...I am sure that there are more like me as well.  I want us all to have fun and be safe.  Perhaps you know someone more experienced/more reviewed in the hobby who could help you get those first few reviews...double up etc.

PM me if you'd like...and happy hobbying!
