Alcohol

I agree with McDaddy. I quit drinking because of an aggressive kind of type 2 diabetes over two years ago and I don't need any help holding or keeping an erection. I did lose 25 pounds just before that, so that is part of it also.

Although I recommend giving up alcohol, when you do, you will find your body acting weird during sexual activity-at least I did. Sometimes I would last a minute, sometimes I would last the whole session and need a hand release, but, in the end, the sex for me now is really great. Alcohol does dull the senses and, isn't that what we are all here for?  Just makes sense.

This is directed towards my fellow 60+ brothers. I consume alcohol on a daily basis. Rarely to the point of drunkeness.
I max out at 2-3 glasses of wine or cans of beer or occasionally bourbon or scotch. I never drink before or during a get together with the ladies primarily because I hobby during the day. I'm in good health: workout 5-6 days a week and carry 5-10 extra lbs. and my testosterone levels are slowly sinking in the west. Erections are softer. I'm a one shot on goal guy.
How much of a role do others feel the alcohol is playing in this? I think I'd like to become a weekend-only imbiber for a while just to see what happens. Have any others made a change like this with positive or encouraging results? If it's simply a matter of aging I'm prepared to let it run its course. My libido seems to be as active as ever. My doctor is not alarmed by either the drinking or testosterone levels. I spent about 6 months getting the supplemetal shots. Interesting experience but no long term solution for me. Comments welcomed. Thanks.

I'm an alcoholic, and have been sober for many years. When I was drinking, I was doing at least a twelve pack every night.

For most guys, alcohol makes getting and keeping an erection more difficult. One provider told me that she and her friends call it "whiskey dick".

For me, though, the alcohol actually helped. My best sex was when I was drunk. When I went sober, keeping an erection was difficult. I think that's a nervousness issue, though, and not physiological. I don't know how or why I was able to maintain good erections while drunk, though.

thanks for your comments Springer and congrats on your sobriety. Nerves can play a big role.
I'm new enough to the hobby where it's still an issue with me. Spending quality time with the right lady, someone who's patient and knowledgeable and skilled, she can help me marginalize the nervous factor and it becomes a very pleasant experience. Drinking might calm my nerves but I don't think it would help with quality erections. But you were younger then, right? Hell, back in the day we could do any and everything and get it up!

i would try to quit alcohol completely..i quit drinking and smoking and could see an immediate response in performance..alcohol dulls the senses..do not let it dull the pleasure we all seek..

It isn't your Doctor who is having erection issues-so why would he be alarmed !!??
