Sildenafil is being prescribed to help alleviate the worsening of the condition. The recommended dosage is the 20mg tablet 3 times a day. A 30 day supply is 90 pills. So what, right? Here's the so-what part: when prescribed for pulmonary arterial hypertension a 90 day supply costs $90. That seems extremely reasonable to me.
My HMO doctor prescribed 20 mg sildenafil tablets for me (not for PAH!). My co-pay for 40 pills is $40. As an aside, Viagra/sildenafil was first investigated to treat PAH. In the clinical tests, the guys discovered the "side effect" and the rest is history!
