Never paid attention to this, but now I'm curious. What do the stars indicate?

Okay, I understand where the rating numbers come from, what they signify, how that works (or doesn't), but where do the 0 to 5 stars come from, what really are they meant to signify, and who decides how many stars a provider gets?

And on a similar note (maybe even related), how are the Top Ten and Top 100 determined? Who decides that and based on what? And how often is the order changed? And is that done by an algorithm, or does somebody update the lists for each city every so often!?

I have been checking out the Top 100 periodically for the past few years but have noticed recently that the order doesn't necessarily correlate to who has the highest appearance/performance numbers. Can somebody clarify this for me?

...average performance score. I believe they provider needs 5 reviews before stars or a portion thereof start showing up. It's probably an algorithm TER programed.

The Top lists are also based on the composite of the average of her appearance scores and the average of her performance scores. They must have 20 reviews to qualify for the lists and they drop off the list  if they go longer than 90 days without a review. It's almost certainly something in the software that "watches" over this. Things (stars, averages, and composites) update once every 24 hours.

I thought maybe the stars might be scoring something else like her menu or something like that.  That no stars are lit until she has 5 reviews answered the question that got me wondering about it (I've got an upcoming date with a provider with only one review).
