I've read reviews on the nano and yes, it does seem very cool.  After all, it is over 60% smaller.  For $300, you can get 4GB on the nano and 20GB on the mini.  Besides music, I would like to add photos and audio books.  I also tend to lose things easily and the nano is about the size of a business card.  That is scary.

My instinct tells me to go with the newer iPod because that's just what people do.  But the Mini seems to suit me better.  Not only that, but the accessories for the Mini (namely the really cute leather holders) are really cute.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Kate

I don't like the ipods.  I have a Dell DJ-30.  It has 30GB. It holds 15,000 songs.  So far I have 2700 on there.  I got it off their website with a car adapter and charger for $300.  You might want to check it out.  Dell.com

Pictures take up next to no space, because the resolution can be so small.  Audio books take about 100 megs per 5 hours.

So, you could fit 5 or 10 normal size books, a thousand pictures and still have room for over 500 tunes.

Also, the mini's don't do pictures, I don't think.  If you want pics, you have to go with nano, or with one of the bigger models.

I think the nano will only display pics on the screen.  If you want to plug it onto a tv to show off the pics, you need a full size model.

The Nano doesn’t hold pictures, or much music. It only has 4 gigabits of memory.  If you want to hold pictures, you need one of the higher capacity hard drive models.

The Nano is toally trick, but I think the real decision gets down to how much memory you think you'll need and how you're going to use it.

If you're going to use an iPod as a digital repository for all your music and photos, then the bigger hard drive iPod is probably the way to go.   Plus, the color screen is bigger for photo viewing.

If you want to take music with you whever you go- to the gym, while riding the train or waiting at the airport, the Nano lets you take 1000 songs, which for the sake of comparison is more music than most popular radio stations have on their playlist, which typically run between 500-1000 songs and only rarely run as high as 1500 songs.  That's a lot of music in an incredible package.   But as usual, only you can make the call which is best for you.

Kate:  if you love music, you will find the nano's 4 gb way too small. Especially if you import AIFF. I find my 30 gb too small. If you only want one type of music for, say, gym use 4gb is fine and the nano a perfect size for such use. But if you want to take it travelling and have it as a companion this is definately a case where bigger is better...
