If a provider or agency requires this and your already out of town or unable to be at your place of employment how do they verify this? Or is that the only way ? Would I be better off moving on to a provider that will verify me another way ?

I don't typically like to resort to work verification, but if this is a requirement and you REALLY want to see the provider then maybe I can offer a bit of help. There are several methods for work verification and it depends on which method the agency prefers.

1) Sending a simple or blank email from your work email address.
2) Photo of work badge with ID. Don't forget to blank out all information that is not pertinent to screening.
3) Providing your office or directory phone number, which the agency uses to call and confirm that you are an actual employee. The one time I went through this screening method I asked the agency to assume the identity of my CPA trying to contact me because they were unable to reach my on my cell phone. I was actually home sick that day, but the fact that whoever answered the phone in the office was able to confirm that I actually worked there was good enough for the agency.

If the agency will allow number 1 then I'd definitely go that route. Number 2 is a bit riskier, but at least you can do it from any location. Number 3 is the challenging one for you, but I got lucky and you may too. In any case, I would first determine the agency's preferred work verification method and it would help to explain your current situation to them.

They call to remind you of a doctor's appt or some other appt.  When the switchboard connects them to your extension, most likely they will hang up.  They now know you do work there, which is all they need, they do not need to actually speak with you.

I'm not so sure I'd send a pic of my photo ID for security purposes.  The email, blank or whatever, leaves a cyber trail.

This is a tough situation and I don't have many good answers, but one possible route is to get P411 verified and see if this can work for the agency or provider. A retired person with no references would probably have to work through a few newbie friendly ladies before have the requisite screening credentials to see most providers. P411 more typically verifies via work verification but in their FAQ they mention they do have ways to verify for those who are retired, unemployed, or self employed.

Fourth question down: https://www.preferred411.com/index.cfm?fx=FAQ

P411 requested a picture of the letter where I was put on SS for the work record.

I think most girls would work with you. I think honesty is better than lying.

Just let them know that you're out of town and can't be "at your desk" right then. There are plenty of ways to verify your employment aside from just the phone call route.

She just needs to say something like she's calling from your dentist's office to confirm an appointment and the receptionist (or automated attendant) can just put her into voice mail.  The point is to confirm your employment, and that does so nicely.  Be sure to give her your mailbox number is the company uses an automated attendant
