Bur I’m helping one of my girls go independent.  She has no idea how this works.  So I set up her email and her username here.  Attached her reviews to her username, and she still can’t post because she works for me?  I mean she is indy now, but will tour when in my area.  I am having a hard time understanding how the system works since I haven’t really helped anyone become “Indy”.  A little insight would be appreciated.  Thank you.

If she has her own membership handle, she can  post and put up ads.  If she has questions, she can either ask them in this forum, or PM me for a private answer if she wants.  I am the host of the board.

I did, I did everything that was asked.  Because she works for me, she can’t go indy?  That’s what I understood.  I only set up her TER Username because she doesn’t know how to do it.  She still can’t post ads or reply on here because she’s not allowed to post.  I contacted TER again but their explanation is because she is working for me even with a website and desire to tour areas I don’t cover she can’t post under her TER Username.  I’m really confused.  I hope this doesn’t come out as disrespect whatsoever, I’m just trying to understand where I went and did wrong.

...she can post on TER discussion boards. (See perfectstorm's post below.) She is not allowed to post ads. She isn't allowed to post photos on the Photo Only Board but she can take part on any discussion board. Agency providers do this all the time.

I just wanted to clear that up. Your statement that she can't post is inaccurate because it isn't specific enough. Since other newbies (including agency providers) will likely read this it's important to be precise.

It seems to me as long has she has some affiliation with you she is considered a part of your agency. She would have to break all ties with you to be considered independent. I do know of independents that will use an agency location when they tour but they were not associated with that agency previously or they had broken all ties well establishing their independence and later contacted the agency about using the location when in town.

Usually when a provider goes independent the agency has to contact TER and affirm the provider is no longer connected to them and all reference to her must be removed from the agency website. Any agency ads with reference to the provider would have to be removed too.

I know of an agency in Atlanta (no longer in business) that had two touring providers use the agency in call. (I don't know what to money arrangement was.) The agency would post on their message board about the touring providers coming to town and handle the booking but did not post ads or market the provider. The provider had to handle ads etc.

For sure, it happens. And there are even some examples in the Boston - NY area (a couple of more stops on Amtrak and it's your DC area).

I know of agency girls that have gone indy. (split from)
I know of indy girls that co-list with agencies. (join in)

I will PM some examples so I don't get anyone in trouble

I will ask to delete the username I have created for her and walk her through making her own.

TER does not like people having multiple user accounts. One way they try to prevent this is they track IP addresses and they frown on someone logging in from another member's computer. (Provider logging in from another provider's Computer, client logging in from provider's computer, provider logging in from client's computer etc.) You could help her, but she still should have set up her own account from her own computer. On the other hand if this was the case, it does seem like admin could have told you this when you asked, instead of giving you the run around. Every once in a blue moon someone from TER staff will chime in on a thread here. This would be a good time.

Good luck to you and your new Indie girl

...It's the likely reason she hasn't been allowed to post. (See my reply to the OP above.)

I appreciate all the helpful feedback.
