Mistakenly Charged for Renewal??

I went to cancel my membership before the month ended so that i wont be charged for renewal. As soon as i did, i was immediately charged another $30. I sent an email via the "contact us" link, but so far no response. Does anyone know how i can get my issue addressed?

I'm sure they will address your issue and make you happy. It usually takes 24-48 hours for them to get back to you. Just sit tight.

If you were using autopay, can we assume you were using a real CC with a real name? (I don't know if you can set up autopay on an anonymous prepaid CC, can you?) If using a real CC with a real name, I hope that TER is able to correct the error and refund the charge to your account.

Does autopay also go thru CCBill? Is CCBill set up to process refunds?

I don't see any reasonable way to refund anything anonymously. ("Dear TER, please cut  a check, payable to me and mail it to ..." Nope, won't work.)

I hope that TER corrects the mistake w/o compromising your current level of anonymity / comfort. Please let us know when the problem is solved and before you disappear from TER forever.

Good luck out there!

I had a simular issue.  I signed up for one month but the processor set it up recurring.  Needless to say I contacted the processor by phone after the second charge..  Explained ter gave me one month only and they needed to cancel the additional billing plus stop future recurring billing.  In the end the processor stopped the recurring and credited back the additional month. I can't remember which processor but the number should be on your credit card bill if you used it.

...clearly stated in the information at the top of the page where you carry out the purchase process for monthly VIP. If you want only one month of VIP all you need to do is cancel several days before your 30 days is up. Your VIP will simply end once the 30 days you paid for are over.

The above of course applies to credit card purchases only.

I respectfully disagree with you or maybe they changed policy in the last six months..  In my case ter sent notifications my membership was ending in x days and when the day came I know longer had VIP but was being  billed as recurring.

...notify members with monthly memberships their membership is ending since it doesn't end unless they contact TER and specifically ask for it to be ended. (See Admins post below).

They do notify members when their quarterly or annual membership is ending.

The Monthly membership doesn't end unless you end it. The quarterly and annual do end when the time paid for is up and TER does notify you when it is about to end.

Seems your situation was some hybrid of this which is a mistake (the computer's fault?). Your solution obviously worked but you need to contact TER about this. They need to look into what went wrong.

I've included the monthly VIP purchasing page link below.

TER does not offer a one month only VIP subscription and has not offered this (at least not in the last 7 years).

When you go to the payment processor, in the Payment Option field, the only option you receive is: $30.oo (USD) for 30 days than $30.00 (USD) recurring every 30 days.  Apparently, some people stop reading after the first mention of 30 days.

NOTE:  if you have been a member for 5 years, the dollar amount will be $25.

You can always stop the recurring billing by going to 'Contact Us' (bottom of most TER pages), clicking on 'Cancel Membership' and completing the form.  If you do not know your subscription number, you can enter 1234.

It is not necessary to cancel non-recurring quarterly and annual subscriptions.  These do not auto-renew

I know you said "at least 7 years" so I'm guessing you have been around here for 7 years.  I bet it's actually been like that since the beginning of paid VIP. I can confirm it's been that way since at least 2004.

I've never met any one who "WANTED" a membership payment that recurred every 3o days.

The "INOVATIVE" thing to do would be to change that feature.

OP said he's looking for a complete cancellation, but just in case it's only CC / privacy issue or others want paid VIP w/o the recurring charge, there is now also the "Gift Card" option.

You can use an anonymous GC (buy it with cash) and go to the TER GC converter. There are companies that will take the GC in exchange for a discounted cash value which then goes straight to TER. E.g., a $30 Amazon GC might be good for 24 days. A $100 Best Buy GC might be good for 85 days. And so on.

Good luck getting your refund and have fun out there in the real world.

Call the number on you credit card listing and they will cancel.   Its a credit card service.   They don't give refunds .   You will have to contact account manager for refunds if your due.
