Does anyone ever watch that show. I go into work a wee bit late every Tuesday night just because its the ONLY show I watch on tv. It's really not what this thread is about however.
One of the characters in the show hired an escort to make his ex jealous. Dennis Leary told him " hire one of those girls off the internet that cost 350 an hour " (wonder if they went to TER ) LOL. And how did Dennis Leary * writer of the show * know that is the going rate in NYC ? hmmm.. I think he saw everyones favorite milf and she isnt telling ! ( bitch ) LOL
Generally when this sort of subject matter is shown in a movie/tv it's depicted as downright trashy.
She was a gorgeous 20 something year old as it begun last week. Very classy.. In 2 minute skits and story jumps, it showed, she didnt take bartering as exchange for cash. That because they formed a friendship of sorts, it was still business.
As it continued this week, her last lament was.
"This is our final date, I start back to school to finish my MBA..
He said " You go to school ". The question was almost deafening and all she said was..
" You dont think I am going to do this for the rest of my life do you. Cmon' Ill give you a ride home for free, That's what friends are for "
I was amazed at how the storyline wrote her in. It just isn't common.
I am sure that someone will lead me to other movies/shows/ etc. Although I just cannot watch that stuff on TV being I dont have much privacy at home in the evening hours.
So, I just wanted to share.

When I read your post I thought of Woody Allen's Mighty Aphrodite, for which Mira Sorvino won an Oscar. Not a great movie, but interesting, if for no other reason it seemed clear to me that Woody is, let's just say, "familiar" with the hobby. Though my guess is that he wouldn't be a favorite of TER providers. Too self-centered, too cheap, too judgmental.
Allen has a terrific escort scene in "Deconstructing Harry" about how he "always has hooker money around the house, cause you never know" (or something like that)
I love the depiction of the escort in that film.
Some of my more memorable encounters are with women like the one depicted here. Incredibly beautiful women, who, for reasons of their own, and reasons I, for one, do not enquire about, are providers... many have advanced degrees - in everything - but I do notice a trend towards psychology? go figure. Again, while many started this as a way to "pay for the education" and then exit, some stay, again for reasons of their own.
Interesting that the media would portray a very real and perhaps not uncommon depiction of this hobby - were it to so do with greater frequency - maybe we could get this legalized!
BSD often says what I am thinking. I am increasingly bothered by the fact this hobby -- which can be practiced in completely safe and sane manner with respect for all participants -- is considered by some to be illegal. Maybe there should be laws and rules against agencies (i.e., commercialization and possible exploitation); maybe taxes should be paid; maybe there should be health regs to prevent disease. But when a U.S. Senator admits that he paid off his lover's $460,000 mortgage and it is common practice throughout this country for men to give financial assistance to their girlfriends or mistresses, what is the point of laws against consensual sexual encounters? I dont know how in the world we fix this in the current political environment, but I know we should.

This storyline is going to get interesting. Wonder if the writers have read the multitude of "falling in love with a provider" threads around here?
the West Wing had that as a story line with the Rod Lowe character. she was working thru law school.
F/X has several shows that are more real than a lot of so-called "reality" shows. A few weeks ago the female FF actually said she had put the phone# of one of the male FF on CL (MSM) as revenge. His phone was ringing non-stop!
I think they are getting a little far fetched by her (the escort) telling him (the 'john') he could give her the $ next time (after the movie) LOL!
The new season of Nip/Tuck starts next month! WOOhoo!!!

I so can not wait! I have the first season o DVD and am waiting for the 2nd season to come out on DVD (Aug 30th). Im obsessed with this show! Why has it taken sooo long!!??
Unfortunately Im a season behind. So im waiting for the DVD set of the second season and Ill watch that first and I guess Ill have to Tivo the third season. Yeah im obsessed. My dream would be to fuck Christian 
It's been said before here that the mainstream cannot have the hobby or its participants depicted in any way but a sad or pejorative one.
If young girls were to get the idea that by simply honing their "people" skills they could live financially comfortable and fulfilling lives there would be a lot of empty cubicles in office buildings. YUPPY women wouldn't be the only ones putting off having kids due to career concerns and possibly the last "fig leaf' would fall in respect to marriage, monogamy and "love" relationships in general.

And while some YUPPY women may decide that this would be the life for them, most would move forward, as they now plan. What would happen is that the lower spectrum of providers - ie. streetwalkers and druggies would now be suspect as a lower quality service - and while they would still exist - the legitimacy of LE enforcing the above mentioned licensing, taxing etc. activities would make that activity financially unrewarding and only be sustainable at a lower rate. It would also focus the vice squads on more serious crimes - such as drugs...
There will still be a majority of people (male and female) who will carry the tourch for traditional marriage.... but for the occasional "stress relief," there would not be the stigma and potential ruin of a persons reputation and life, by participation in the hobby....
And it takes a woman with tremeandous social skills to pull off being a provider... tis not an easy task. When I look back at the ladies that I have had fun with, I have chosen wisely...as I have had a great time with almost all of them.... as I would hope that they have had with me...

Most women could not handle this lifestyle. It is more than just 'easy money'. In fact, it is not easy at all, every encounter you make is involving a huge risk. In countries where this is legal (almost everywhere but here), there are still plenty of women filling office cubicles and still women who work the street, the parks, the bars, etc.....Legalization would be good, however, to stop criminalizing participants and limiting their future potential in relation to alternative careers if and when they decide to leave the business.

A movie entitled "Sleepless in Seattle" helped me dream of encounters with lovely ladies like we find here on TER. While I'm financially unable to do overnights, I certainly enjoy 1 or 2-hour appointments every three or four weeks.

You HAVE go out and get some sort of TIVO device! This will literally change the way you watch any TV. IT also lets you watch better TV, since you can have shows tape round the clock that may be of interest to you.
Most satellite and cable operators now also have them built into their boxes for a small fee per month!
Maybe offer a monthly special for any licensed cable/satellite installer to come barter with you.
