TER Messenger

Can anyone tells me what TER messenger is and how it's used? Is it like a chat board like back in the aol days?
If you go to your account manager, and click on "show my online status" then when uou logon to TER you wiill show up as online if someone looks at your profile, and you will show up under "chat with provider," and also will be at the top of the list when people search reviews, with the online ststus showing up next to your name.
Some providers use it to set up dates. Others think it's useless. The same providers seem to be on it all the time, so it must work for them.
