IMHO, including Bad Boys II, & Pearl Harbor-which might be one of the worst films of all time, so some may not take his work too seriously.......(I didn't see Island, but lets face facts, he's done some horrible movies, & it takes more than just a big budget & special effects to make a great film......
I do not look for a thriller, or even science fiction to cover all the gaps in the plot. I am along for the ride or I am not.
I think the harsh reviews of this film are unwarranted. Almost like they are written by people jealous of Michael Bay's success, rather than trying to give a fair assessment of a piece of tasty eye confection. It's just so easy to bash a high-budget action film. Writers who compare it unfavorably to the Matrix neglect that what similarities there are, compliment each other. Perhaps a reason for growing people, a la the Matrix.
It's hard to do convincing science fiction. The Island is quite entertaining. Plus you get perhaps the most realistic look yet at a futuristic Los Angeles.
