Many of the ladies I know treat this as part-time work. I've known them to leave for weeks or months for anything from surgery, vacation, school, another job, issues with family, a personal relationship, trip overseas, incident with a bad client or LE scare, quit then change their mind etc. Some will let their regulars know while others will pull down their ads/site and that's it. Remember for every lady there's probably dozens of regular clients she may have, and it may be she doesn't have the time/desire to contact them all to let them know she's going to be away (and deal with all the questions, comments and pleadings that follow that up).
I think it's great if a provider has the professionalism to keep on top of all the correspondence in her business. But, I can also see why so many find it easier to let things slide.
If it bothers you, I don't see why it would hurt to politely ask the providers you're seeing if they would keep you in the loop. And if they still don't, then there are always other, more reliable ladies to see.
