Suggestion and Policy

Ah I misread the OP!

You're right. What he's asking for is a read receipt or indicator of some kind, which I don't think the TER Beta version has.

Would like to see that when a PM sent is read that it shows up that way.
P-411 does it with their system and is nice to know if it is read.

And in the new version being tested now, subject lines of unread messages are in bold font and read message subjects are in normal font.  I think P411 does something similar, right?  (Bold vs regular font)

I don't believe that is true NYE. If YOU click on one of your sent messages, the color changes or the font changes. I don't see any way of telling if the recipient read the message (other than getting a reply from them.)

I think on P411, such notifications are an important part of their system and rules: must respond to a request within 3 days or something like that, so a sender needs to know the status while deciding on the next step (re-send request, send a non-P411 email, complain to P411, etc.). (I'm D-C, not P411. Please correct me on that.)

However, most people probably prefer to have Plausible Deniability and to keep their private biz private. It can be a real pain some time ("Cancellation fee? I sent you multiple cancellation messages 10 days, 7 days, 5 days ... in advance! Didn't you read them?" "Nope. Never saw them. :-) ")

Seriously, do you want email confirmation in your real life?

On P 411, providers are NOT required to respond to PM's. They are however required to respond to "appointment requests" even if the response is to decline the appointment

I also would like it if we had a "message read" feature like so many other sites have, especially since unless you are PMing an alias you really have no way of knowing if the other person ever got your message.

I've been using email since before it became "global" (not just internal). In the interim, using about a billion different email systems, I can recall only one email system that could notify the sender when the recipient had opened the mail ... except that the recipient controlled the option to "notify sender." As I recall, 99+ % of the users were choosing to NOT send such a notification and it has disappeared from most surviving mail systems.

Who wants an electronic receipt proving that you read, "I want that report on my desk by 5:00!! Not tomorrow!" when it's 4:50 and you have tickets to the game. Screw that and have the report on the desk by 9:00 AM with a note, "Sorry, I didn't get your email until after 5:00."

and many sites offer the feature, "message delivered" followed by "message read" just like a text message. Once you open it, the sender is notified.

We have moved a LONG ways from the old AOL days. lol

if I send a P411date re year Ido not know if she has read or not
If I send a PM and she opens it I know if it is readand if no response in a reasonable time to move on.
If stays unread no sense in waiting/
