....reads lately? I leave, and come back to find no one is reading any posts anymore! An outrage! AN utter outrage? I am I the only one noticing? Whatever happened to the 500+ threads? I haven't seen one reach above 400 since I have returned...
Im used to seeing, 6's and 7's and 8' and 1000+ reads, not 269, or 140, and so on... what has happened? can anyone account for the low numbers? is it because its summer? I don't remember this happening last summer...
Im not sure why this worries me, but it does... The quality of the posts seems the same, no better no worse... at least as far as I can tell... but no one is reading them...

It seems worse on our locaL (LV) board. Not just low reads, but few posts. CAn it be because all of our smarter neighbors have left for cooler climates?
I have also noticed that many of our stalwart friends are not posting no where near as much as they used to or not at all.
Too bad...I enjoy the thoughts and humor.
Like I said summer. I have been a provider for many years and this is what happens in summer. There are many truths to this industry as I always state. However one of the truths is hobbyists have real lives too. Vacationing with family..household repairs..disposable monies simply arent around this time of year.
It's hot out, so I go inside to the A/C to cool off. Then my thoughts turn towards sex to warm my chilly toes. Oh, and the SO goes to visit her family for a week. That might be it too.
just a guess. I would have thought the notorious NY'er article would have driven scores of traffic to the site but such is not the case.

used to "hit their own number" constantly to increase the read count (a macho thing maybe?). I'm sure it is still going on, but maybe not as much, because these boards have had slow response time recently, and people who were doing this likely got bored. IMHO, read counts are distracting and serve no useful purpose that I can see. Indeed, as I just noted, they can be misleading. I would get rid of them!
Here, read counts really do have an effect.
In my opinion, I think it's a combination of all the things mentioned. I suspect Summer would bring about a lull, just because so many other things to do, vacations and etc. The new format and look seems to have turned some folk off. Lastly, there comes a time when all of us find other things to do. Or perhaps do less of the same things that peaked our interest in the past. Also, lots more message boards and chatrooms popping up. So if you don't like what you see or read here, options are becoming very plentiful. Then there's the increase in just plain weird post and all the flaming that seems to follow. I suspect some of us have decided to sit on the sidelines and let the flames consume the board. Personally, I post as the spirit moves me. Prefer using my time for research and chat.
Sedona and Ciara (of Phoenix) are gone for one. NetMichelle posts only sparsely now. These were the women who hooked me on the boards in the first place. Other women like yourself and NOSC seem to post a lot less. Ciara (of Buffalo) have taken up a lot of the slack, but there's still a lot to be made up.
Fewer women posting mean fewer interesting men posting. So there goes Turkana, VonRyan and stilltryin too.
It's like a magazine that loses some its best columnists. Of course there's going to be a readership drop.
Plus, and Ciara is right, summer, and the hurricanes. I'm surprised at how many other outages I've heard of unrelated to that storm. (I'm in a job where I'd know about power outages).
The personel loss is cyclic though. Others will step up someday.
I generally don't read any posts about HIV, STDs/BJs, wedding rings, "hobbyist remorse", politics, etc.

Topics get repeated all the time, its never a real biggie-- right now the ongoing topic is review garble, why not go be uninterested in them? I cant stand when people are needlessly rude.... how about noticing the fact that I HAVEN'T BEEN HERE? did you read that in my original post?

I, also, have found that I generally don't read many of the posts these days.
I'm really not interested in listening to the whining about "ladies who don't show their faces", "why someone got a 8-9 rating instead of 6-7", just the petty complaints of some "newbies instead of the stimulating discourse of old.
I still feel the need occasionally, to jump in and try and support the ladies when some jerk goes off on a tirade against the ladies for something stupid. but that is becoming more and more like you said, "hobbyist remorse", and it's just not worth it anymore.
Those guys aren't going to ever "get it".
I also agree with Zin, that many of the "celebrities" of these boards are not around any more, for whatever reason.
I still talk to Ciara(of Phoenix) on a regular basis and she is doing well, but I do miss the banter we had on the boards.
Nettie, Mr. Self Destruct, NOSC, Sedona, JP, et all, are all missed very much around here.
Oh, well, so much for my rant.

Maybe alot of folks are not spending so many resources on the hobby any more.
The other possiblity is that people are just busy doing research and having fun.
It's summer, it's hot, there's wine to drink and boats to sail and food to prepare and eat and share with everyone and maybe we just don't need to spend quite as much time here as we would on a cold winter's night, ya know?
...this post has had the most reads I have seen since I been back!
I do hope its just the affects of summer-- although as I said, I cant remember last summer being so bad, or any before that... I know we have plenty posts-- I am actually noticing now, we've more new posts than people who care to read them... hopefully we will get over it, maybe draw some new people in. I know anyone I meet, or come across that doesn't know about TER, I tell them, and let them know the boards are a good place to be-- fun and useful (at times)... I pray it picks up, I cant preach to no one!
