I'm in the central california area. The boards are silent for this region. All of the ads seem old and the providers appear mostly transient.

You may have to consider traveling. Since you didn't mention your circumstance, concerning an SO, it's a challenge to give you advice. Do you travel for business or can you get away for a day? If you can think about either SF or Sac. SF has a lot of escorts, Sac not so much, but there are some available. Also consider joining p411 and then look for newbie friendly providers.
I'm chicken though. Life has turned me into a travel addict. Been in one stop for 6 years now. It's a record! If I ever do go, I sure hope I can keep from breaking that the trend.

Since this area has nothing to do with TER, I almost took a chance on a lady from backpage. Before calling the number I decided to Google it for some reason. Good thing I did Because the first search result showed that the number might be associated with LE.
I find it somewhat ridiculous that society has made this so difficult and risky.
