can ANYBODY just go to some website and track me?  Wondering how this monger was able to track his wife's phone. Kind of sounds like he must have known her log in information, not sure.

I didn't ask him because the thread is old. Will send him a private message. If he's like me, he may not notice the message for a few months.......

On a regional board, someone indicated that he tracked his wife's cheating because " if you use Google anything and its on your phone, you're being tracked." I did find the Google website that will show you a map of everywhere the phone has been for the past month, but it required logging in with your personal google account id & pin. I logged in and found nothing on myself, which I THINK is because I do not sign in to google on my non-burner phone or my burner phone. But I certainly do use google maps, a lot. Can anyone explain in more detail how this all works? Also, is it more likely that Google will track you if you use an Android phone (since Android apps are manufactured in Santa's Workshop by Google)?

I kill Google Maps when not needed, and GPS is only activated if I can't manually find my location on the map.  I HATE a GPS system that sends or stores my info.

When you start Google Maps on your phone, go to the Settings menu and turn off the "Google location settings".  Keep your GPS off too unless absolutely needed.  Verify on your Google Maps menu that you're logged out.

This doesn't mean you're untrackable.  At any time you can request a location history of your device from your phone carrier and they'll use the history of tower location strengths to triangulate you - basically the 911 location tracking.

Can go a step further and opt out of WiFi MAC and Bluetooth address tracking: http://smart-places.org
