Hi,

It seems somewhat common for providers to ask for one's name, age, and cell number to get verified. I understand the need for safety but I have a hard time giving out my cell number as it is both personal, work, and effectively my home number. As we all do, I have a private life and don't want to risk my two lives intersecting. To that end, I have an app on my phone that I share.

I assume that they are doing a reverse phone look-up on me? Am I being too paranoid? Looking for guidance from those in the know - both providers and hobbyists.

As an aside, I have a limited number of references and would probably be willing to send an email via my work email to an un-associated email address.

Thanks in advance.

there is a concept called " hobby phone " you should look into..

Unless you own the business, never use your work email to communicate with a lady.

When I got into the hobby I had to do it with a well known service in my area but it is certainly not my preference now. I don't want to get a hobby phone because it would be noticeable; something the SO could find with just a minor mistake on my part. At least with an app, I can hide it and send call to VM when I am in mixed company.

So what is the intent of getting my stats and real cell number?

their screening methods on a public forum; or in a private setting.

Agreed - was silly of me to think a provider might respond to that.

Still curious what can be dug up so I suppose I will leverage our friend google for some answers.

...Some have said they can tell when a number you've given them is one of the phone apps used to prevent someone such as SO etc. from catching on to you. Whether or not they can I don't know but you have to decide what you're willing to give. If the provider is legit, reputable (choose an adjective) then your information should be safe. Consider she may decline to see you if you give her a burner app number and she is able to discover that is what you've done. You can also ask her to always use your burner number for communication but give her your actual number for screening. It's up to you. There are other ladies that won't require that information in order to see you. Though they will screen you. Being screened is one indication they are legit.

Let me suggest you contact P411. Use their 800 number. Let them screen you once. See the ladies on P411 who indicate they are newbie friendly. Get them to give you OK's on P411. From there your P411 membership and OK's will suffice for screening and you are set.

That being said there are some P411 ladies that will still want personal information even with P411 membership and OK's. It's up to you to decide if you want to divulge it. There are plenty that won't want any personal information.

Verify you are who you say you are. It is a way for me to make sure you are a "real person" and I am safe. I don't call it/give it out or text it. I usually use email to communicate unless the hobbyist wants to text. I hope that helps.

It just occurred to me...I am a newbie who recently reached out to a newbie provider, but, haven't heard back......could it be because my name is not on my phone, but, family is because I'm on a family share plan?
