I'm retired as well. After doing this for many years at the local level, I was finally able to financially afford to step up my game. I started out by contacting a high profile provider, Victoria Jolie of Canada,  who suggested that, with RS2K verification, she would agree to see me.
I gave RS2K my info. The process took less than 24 hours & everything went well. Victoria gave me a great referral that led to my next experience, 3 weeks later, with Alba Nefarious of DC, then later, with Victoria of Arizona & then Karoline of Montreal, and so on.  I haven't looked back since.
Throwaway, you could do worse than to listen to mrfisher's counsel. I've enjoyed his posts for many years. He won't steer you wrong (even though he's still not a lawyer, lol)

I have a somewhat complex question.  What is the best way to get verified when you're retired?  Most services like p411 want to check with your employer.  But the problem is that I've sold my business and now I'm happily out of a job!  Do any services use LinkedIn?  Or check previous employers?

And when you contact a provider you can suggest such things and see if she is OK with them.

Sadly, some gals have very strict screening process to the extent of if you don't have provider references and/or job references, then you won't see them.  The only thing you can do then is to find some providers you would like to see who will accept you, and after you see them use them for a reference for the more strict gals.

Also, writing a well written, sincere, and succinct email that explains your situation and demonstrates your best intentions sometimes is enough to convince a gal that you are OK.

...with the exception of Linkedin.  Any Tom, Dick, or Harry, can find a profile on Linkedin, and create a persona of sorts to match an online profile.

If a gentleman is retired, or is now a contractor (I live in DC), I ask for previous employment.  I also have many nonintrusive ways of screening, and verifying information with, or without references.

Hugs and Kisses,
Kelly

...for working with you to get verified. You being retired shouldn't be an issue. There are many discussions here about P411 verifying guys in your situation.

They gave me alternative means of verifying who I am.  Some personal info is required but you can black out some of it. It worked for me.

I'm also retired  and I used 411, DC, and TER White list. I have never had a problem. I know it's a bit much, but I want providers to know that I'm serious. Definitely do 411 and be active on your local TER board so you become known in the community.
