Why is she retiring would be a good start. Have you ever asked her who her ATF was? What if you found out years later that it was you but she never had the guts to tell you? How would you feel then? Just because she is retiring doesn't necessarily translate to celibacy. Why not give it a shot?

I think you should send almost anything that would show some type of appreciation, even if its just a card, email, flowers etc.
Wish her the very best , she'll appreciate your thoughts
