I am a newbie to the hobby, and am in the process of trying to get into it. I joined TER because I wanted to be able to make sure to meet up with people who are safe, and who are veritably independent. Unfortunately, it looks as if a decent amount of people are only interested in meeting up with older men, and, if they are interested in younger men, certainly not black males. Does anyone know of any local providers who might be interested in seeing a young black male?

You may be focusing on the wrong things babe. You are a newbie, focus on finding someone that is "Newbie friendly," screen accordingly and look into joining a verification site. Once you have a great hobby profile and prove you are a decent and respectful client, that is what really makea more of a difference. And the age thing, well there are tons of young bucks here happily hobbying. Get in where you fit in for now and just go from there.
but the facts are a HUGE percentage of providers will not see a young black man. I bet you would be staggered by the numbers if anyone were to do the research.
I agree that a verification site is the best move on his part, this will cut down the number of rejections by quite a bit, the other thing I would recommend is that just like a new provider asking for reviews, the more white lists on TER and "okays" on P411, the less his age and race are going to be an issue. I wish I could say that his problems will be a thing of the past, but there are still many, many women that won't see a young black guy under any circumstances, but he will improve his odds at least.
I know it's hard not to take this type of thing personally, but it's not a perfect world, nor is it likely to be so anytime soon.
Just my point to the OP is not to focus on those "no young black guys" girls. We can all say we have our "preferences" or whatever, but if I focused on all the guys that don't see black/ mixed females or prefer a darker complexion black female or a skinner not curvy or taller not short female, and well dwelled on everything I am not, I would have been out of the game a long time ago!!! Lol!
We are in agreement that he needs to build his hobby profile up, and NOT with BP conquests and hopefully that will open more doors. But yes there are a lot of young guys hobbying, so surely there is a way.
My apologies. I am in the Bay Area. And thank you for your responses. I am in process of getting a Preferred 411, which seems to be the best way to go from what I can gather. I will start from there and definitely be on the look out for people who are newbie friendly.

The hobby has the same people in it as regular society, so you are going to run across providers that are not going to see you because you are young, a black male, and for both of those reasons. Do your research by looking at the provider's website, ads, reviews, and TER postings along with being up front with the provider that you are a black male. I have never been asked to state my race by a provider, but I always stated such so that I don't have my time wasted communicating with a provider that would be unwilling to see me. To be honest I have had a harder time finding providers that are willing to cater to my particular fetish, than running across providers that would not see me because of my race.
Other thing you might run into is that you might have a weird experience or two with some providers that are not of your particular racial background. I have had a provider want to touch my afro for some strange reason within a couple of minutes of meeting me.
