By the way, there are many other benefits to VIP than just being able to read PMs

Your one PM is probably not important. Probably just someone commenting on your post on the General board. I wouldn't say it is worth 30 bucks to read one PM. However the VIP allows you to read the juicy details of reviews, and to use a lot of search features, as well as sending and receiving PMs. One additional thing VIP does is allow you to have an alias (which is like a second username or handle.

I am showing a "new text message" on the upper right corner of my page. Is paying for membership the only way to retrieve it or do I have to be here a certain period of time first and then it will be free to access it? Are there alternate methods of seeing it and responding? I dont know who it is from. Thank you.

to receive private mail (PM) on TER.

But rather than buying the VIP, TER allows you to get 15 days for each review you have published (after the second one goes up) or 2 days for each Problem Report on a provider's profile that you bring to their attention and is fixed.

Many VIP members seem to get along by using those methods of getting VIP.

It does not depend on how long you have been a TER member.

And what "problems" does it fix? Like what the women's menu is or other info?

To submit a problem report, go to the provider's profile and click the "report a problem" button. Problem reports are generally used for simple things like adding a phone number or email address or updating out-of-date ad or website urls. The information you submit must be verifiable, so, for example, if you're submitting a phone number, include a link to an ad that includes the phone number.

That you won't get free VIP Days for problem reports until you actually pay for VIP, or get initial VIP by submitting two reviews. If you submit a problem report and it's accepted, 2 VIP days go into your "VIP bank" but you can't collect them if you have never had VIP before. Once you get VIP days by paying or submitting two reviews, then your "banked" days activate when your other days run out. Bite the bullet and pay for a month of VIP. It's only 30 bucks, which is a very small investment compared to the cost of this hobby.

I dont even know how I would go about finding the problems to report them. You do bring up another querstion however. Why would I need another user name like an alias for? Isnt the one I am using good enough to post on all the boards? Im a bit confused. On another site like this they never gave me an option like that.

...next to the Self-Help Center link. The Message Board Policies have a section on using an alias and a link to reasons for using one.

Bad websites, new websites, contact information (phone numbers, email addresses etc.) rates, even things like age, smoking status, tattoos, implants, etc. However, as raygun said, you need to provide proof (for example her website or ad disagrees with information on her profile.

As for the alias thing, see the attached link.

PS: Even though I suspect you are an oldie disguised as a newbie, I give the benefit of the doubt on this board, and your questions may be important to other true newbies. :)
Thank you for playing. :)
