Article in today's NY Times Magazine on teaching Capuchin monkeys about money. Apparently, once they caught on to the idea of money they used it quite rationally, at least no more irrationally than homo sapiens. They were taught to use money to buy food. At one point, one bright fella used it to procure sex (although the article opens by saying these monkeys think of nothing but food and sex and one would think they get enough of sex via natural means).
Only question is...did the female (or male, for that matter!) take the money? I wonder if he thought he got his money's worth or was she a rip-off? I imagine the primate rating system would be quite something to see. Maybe something like:
1 banana - Rather have the banana.
2 bananas - It shoulda cost me a half banana less.
3 bananas - It was ok, but I could have gotten more sucking up to slutty Susie Ape.
4 bananas - I had a pretty good time and all my lice picked out of my fur too.
5 bananas - Wow, the things a girl will do for a banana! Damn.
