Can you please ad a Discussion Board for San Jose-South Bay area you have San Francisco but not the South Bay. I know San Francisco is supposed to be for the whole Bay Area but it is not only San Francisco guys and gals post on the boards there.

On life support. Really don't think TER needs to create another dead board.

Instead of "San Francisco" rename the board "San Fran - South Bay - San Jose" (I don't know the preferred names for the geography) to try to bring in more borderline posters. ("Should I post about SJ to the SF board? Nah ... they'll tell me in the wrong place." "Now that it's "SF - SB - SJ" I'll definitely post!")

Do you think a name change would help?

Much better than creating a new board that would be dead. Not sure what to name it.
Northern CA
SF, and Bay Area
SF, and South Bay
Etc.
Perhaps a discussion on the SF board to name it.

It still can be confusing. For example, when the 3 other CA boards were added (Central Valley, Gold Coast, and inland Empire) there were lots of questions about what cities were included in those different areas.
However it is probably still better than adding new boards for specific areas.

Having been born in SF and raised all over the Bay Area everyone from there will know exactly what you are talking about either way.

I also agree completely that the last thing TER needs is yet another dead board. Looking at the first page of the current SF board it's clear it certainly does NOT need splitting as there are threads a month old still on the first page, a clear sign of a board already too slow.

Make sure the name is helpful to non-locals, too. Business travelers to the NYC region might not know "White Plains" or even "Flatbush" when most content is about Manhattan.

Or can TER add sub-titles to the board names, just above the first post?

Currently, for any regional board:

*** New York
*** Welcome to the New York discussion board.
*** This is a moderated forum in which flames and messages outside the forum topic will be removed. This is not the area to post detailed reviews. Please submit reviews via the reviews tab.

Edit the one-line sub-headers to "Welcome to the NY D Board. This forum includes Manhattan, the five boros of NYC (Manhattan, Bklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island), Westchester County (White Plains, Elmsford), Orange County, ... Long Island and occasionally New Jersey which has its own forum."

For each forum, include enough info to clarify for the locals and inform and help the non-locals.

For me, the San Fran board would have to say,
"No, you idiot, Denver is NOT part of the San Francisco Bay Area.

"Frisco Area."

Uh oh. I'm in trouble.

INCOMING! :D :D

I was going to mention in my first reply that the SF board itself isn't exactly busy (with month old threads on the first page) but imagine if they made a seperate board for some place like San Jose? Look at the Inland Empire board with posts going back to January on page one, and Central Valley and Gold Coast posts going back a year!

(But Jessicaa is hot, so I wasn't going to give her too much of a hard time :) )

I'm basically repeating my reply, above, with a new subject line for TER to read more easily.

Local Boards currently show up as:

Line One: LOCAL BOARD, e.g., New York
Line Two: a one-line welcome: "Welcome to the New York discussion board." Duh.
Line Three: a standard disclaimer and warning.

Sometimes, it might be beneficial to change the current name of the existing board (Line One) as suggested above (San Fran to "San Fran Bay" or "San Fran - San Jose - South Bay" or "Northern CA" (would need a descriptor, for sure!).

For ALL current discussion boards, change the Line Two "Welcome" message to include descriptive information. Let the local board members suggest what it should say to be most helpful for LOCALS and TOURISTS.

E.g., Line Two for New York: "Welcome to the New York Discussion Board. This forum includes Manhattan, the five boros of NYC (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Staten Island), Westchester County (White Plains, Elmsford), Orange County, ... Long Island, Nassau County and occasionally New Jersey which has its own forum."

For each forum, include enough info in the Welcome message to clarify for the locals and inform and help the non-locals.

For me, the San Fran board would have to say,
"No, you idiot, Denver is NOT part of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Of having the description of where the board covers on that "welcome" section.
