Now we need something that allows browsing undetected on a network - for those of us checking in while at work.  I do anyway, but my surfing could be traced by network admin.  I've heard of anonymous IP or IP spoofing, but I haven't investigated the possibilities.

Go to www.mozilla.org and download yourself a copy of Firefox FOR FREE.  It is more secure, less crap gets downloaded on your computer without your consent (aka spyware) and BEST OF ALL, you can go under tools, options and with one click of one button delete your cache, cookies, history, etc.  That's great for people, like me, who don't want everyone looking at where they have been.  If you try to do this with Internet Explorer it takes a half hour.  Don't delete your IE however, cause you will need that to deal with Microsoft on updates to windows etc.  A computer dude told me about this one day down at the harbor.  Occasionally you will find a site that only likes IE, but they are rare.

Mozilla was the company that apparently originally wrote netscape navigator before it was sold (?).  Anyway, this deal is free.

I too worry about someone being able to track me at work by running some fancy crap in the IT room, so the most I do is check my email.  These days anything related in the most remote way to sex seems to be able to sink a career, so best to be VERY careful.  Look at someone's boobs, they say "Remove him." even if the owner of the boobs was not complaining.  Drive drunk, they say "Ahh, he made a mistake. He learned his lesson by getting a ticket and losing his DL."

I have been using Mozilla for years now as backup (have no choice but to use Explorer when working from home)

Read a review months back about this browser that was excellent. Thanks for jogging my memory. Think I'll give it a try.

Heres another one you might want to check out www.dxmachine.com

I'm no tech expert, but I'd hazzard to guess you may be right.  Any spyware, hack attack, etc. is generally aimed against Microsoft products.  The latest versions are the major targets.

My guess is that if you chose an older version of Netscape or any browser besides Explorer, you'll be in good shape.  It's all because it's below the radar of the marketplace.

As I recall, you're right.  Mozilla was the first browser.  It was developed by Marc Andreesen, the lil' geek (super rich now, I'm sure) that found a way to put graphics and such up on the internet.

I have been using Mozilla for about 6 months.  It offers a wide range of advantages over Internet Explorer or Netscape including what's mentioned above, much greater pop-up blocking, password maintanence, and more.

Mozilla really takes security seriously.  Most importantly, 99.9% of the viruses, spyware, adware, and other malicious little buggers out there like trojan horses, are designed to attack flaws in the Microsoft platforms.  People on Macs don't have all the same problems (I used to have a Mac and it was great not to worry about every virus alert).  However, Mozilla allows the same experience.

I get no pop-ups.  None.  Zero.  I don't work for Mozzila - I'm just an extremely satisfied customer.

The only thing is some sites that use secure java interfaces require Internet explorer (I have only one for my employee payment system).  Feel free to contact me with other questions.  [email protected]

Try anonymizer- it's web based an has lots of filters!  It's s mall fee for an anuual subscription, but well worth it!! Even Admin's can't see where you've been!

And love it.  I started using it mainly because pop ups and spyware come through IE so easily. I now use Mozilla exclusively for my hobby and boobie watching related surfing activities. Make sure you keep your eye on that download manager though, you have to manually delete the history.

The UI is a mirror of Netscape which I don't really care for, but the functionality and privacy aspects are worth it.
