I think you'll like "Dragon Tattoo" by John Burdett. If you're curious about the Thai sex industry the theme of the book will acquaint you to that as well as being a well-written mystery. Review on Amazon.com:

yes, amazon.com gives a break buying them together. I read the snd novel and didn'y feel I missed anything from the first. An excellent read that I finished in a day. Couldn't put it down.

Also a good read is "Shoveling Smoke" if you like crazy characters & plot line.
