Hi all. I've been doing some searches on legal issues pertaining to the hobby, along with tips on how to be careful and not get busted(or at least drastically reduce your chances of being busted). I live up here in the twin ports area & it's somewhat sad in a way because the market--for want of a better word--for upscale providers is practically non-existent. We have a combined population of approximately 115,000 but essentially no providers. Oh sure, there are some ads on Backpage but God only knows which ones are valid. Also it's much harder to ascertain whether the woman in question is a true independent or in many cases if she's even of age. Of course, what man in his 40's would want to sleep with an 18 or 19 year old? But I don't mean to judge anyone, I guess. At any rate, I did some searches on sting ops up here and apparently there was one last December, in both Duluth and Superior. But it doesn't appear as though there have been any since then.
Recently, an experienced and well reviewed provider has been placing ads but that's such a rarity up here that I'm somewhat paranoid to even seek her out. In the twin cities there are hundreds of providers to choose from. Out here in this neck of the woods she may as well be the Lone Ranger for Christ's sake. Obviously, I admire her courage. But I can't help but wonder if LE will target her--and her client(s)--just to make an example.
Obviously, I'm a rookie in the hobby. But along these lines, here's another question. For those of us who live good distances away from the cities, would it be better to just take the day off from work and make the trek down? For the sake of argument, if you did get busted in the cities then you would be prosecuted down there correct?
Undoubtedly some of you are laughing your asses off at my newbie paranoia, but there have been past instances of the News-Tribune putting people's pictures in the paper. A few years ago some poor bloke actually got his picture ON THE COVER. Now I don't remember all the details there...maybe the nut was trying to pick up a fifteen year old street walker or something. Most likely he wasn't being smart about things, but who knows? I haven't been able to track down the article on line yet...

If there is nothing close by you are interested in, I see not much else you can do other than play hooky from work and set something up elsewhere. As far as where you would be prosecuted, probably where you got popped, you would need to research MN law.
BTW, there are lots of guys over 40 that would love to sleep with an 18 or 19 y/o. My first was 18, and I was way over 40 at the time. Everyone has their preferences. Regardless of who you want to see, you have to do the research on her, reviews, pics, phone number, and any other info you can find. It doesn't matter where you look, but you gotta do the research before contacting anyone.
If you have not yet done so, read the self help center, aka the newbie manual. You can also a search on this forum for research, you may find some good pointers.

Check out the Minnesota board. You might find some ladies who come up your way, or even make a connection for a future date in the Twin Cities.
I'm on P411, a verification site and just logged in to check out Minneapolis and found 135 independent providers. IMO its always safer to use a verification site to find providers...with reviews. Heck yea Id make the trek. Find something fun to do down there so you got something lined up after your appointment. Its about 2.5 hours to Minnesota from Duluth so thats not too bad. I drive that long to go camping LOL.
Its almost 5.5 hours to Vegas from Phoenix by car and Id trek up there to take a dip and then go drinking!
Since your local options are limited to Backpage escorts, you could contact one of these girls and say you're interested in a possible 'sugar' relationship. Invite her to a lunch date for $60 to $100, no strings. I suppose an overzealous cop could bust you for anything, but sugar dating is legal just about everywhere. You need to tread carefully, but if you're smart you can minimize your risk this way.
Let's say you get snared by a fake backpage ad that's actually a sting. You're not going to the hotel room where the sting is set up. You're meeting at a restaurant, coffee shop, etc. You need to be careful about what you're offering--a strictly money-for-sex transaction is prostitution. But if you frame it as part of a 'sugar relationship', where you're doing other activities (going to movies, having dinner at a nice restaurant, shopping, etc) you may be ok. --z

While you're there you could always have lunch downtown while you're in Minneapolis. I know a good place...
You can always try St. cloud too, slightly shorter drive and there are a number of reputable providers in that area as well.
I also feel your pain as I have the same problem, but am at the opposite end of the state. However I usually find myself in the mpls area at least a couple times a month so it really isn't that much of an issue for me with needing time off work. P411 combined with the MN ad board here are the two greatest resources you can have (eros can be hit and miss). As long as you do your research and don't be stupid about it, LE typically isn't too much of a problem in the mpls area.
