Reading the self-help center will give you a lot of information as will reading back as many pages here on the newbie board as you can. The self-help center can be found near the life preserver at the top of the discussion boards.
Joining in the discussions on your local board will help people get to know you. Posting a weekly ad on your local ad board can generate interest as can posting on the photo only board.
After you have done some reading come back and ask any specific questions you might have.
