It's a online email service similar to hotmail but more private.

It seems it's too hush even for it's users

Apparently someone hijacked the domain Hushmail.

POP3 email like Yahoo is more secure as your email is not stored on a central server, but sent directly to your computer.

this posted on thier site.

Where exactly do you think your yahoo mail sits until you download it?  On one of Yahoo's "central" servers.

So your theory just got blown out of the water.

Send email to yourself from your yahoo account. Then examine the headers in the message for a line like:

Received: from [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] by web13503.mail.yahoo.com via HTTP

Guess whose IP address is in the brackets. Hushmail does not include your IP address in their headers.

Still feel more secure?

I hope your IE is updated (If you use that crap).  Check your machine for viruses and spyware if browsed to rather than used a mail handler besides Bleaklook or Bleaklook Express.  (My names for Microsoft's Outlook, BTW.

Lookout and Lookout Express.

There was no unauthorized access to any of the Hushmail servers.
Data managed by Hushmail was not compromised.

Well, data stored on Hushmail's servers might not have been compromised, but what about email messages that were enroute to Hushmail users during the domain hijack?  I didn't notice if there was any mention of Hushmail's MX records being hijacked, but they did say that mail sent during that time "might not have been delivered".  I'm not completely conviced that it's 100% "no big deal".

I posted that at some peculiar hour of the morn.. Never went back today to look .Thanks sfloridian for clearing it up for me !

As for safety.. .. United states cannot get warrants from the netherlands.. Where hushmails server is based...

Thanks again !

just checked mine--all ok

Has anyone ever tried safe-mail.net?

I was thinking of switching because I'm receiving too much spam email!!

I just returned from vacation and couldn't get into my hushmail email through the bookmark I normally use.  Nothing worked so I called Support... tried to be helpful but still couldn't get me into email after 45 minutes.  Muttering about my cable company not updating browsers or something like that and ended saying they expected everything to be back to normal this morning.  Received an email from Hushmail Support shortly after that with a custom link to use to get into my account, which does actually work.  Definitely they are having problems... at this point they seem to be putting out fires one at a time, but don't seem to have a handle on the bigger issues.    Maybe it's a good time to post an alternate email address on my website?
